I dont understand why Ray is always compared to Reggie Miller and why Miller is always held to such a high esteem in people's minds.

I always see people bringing up Reggie as somebody that Ray should be trying to be and live up to in terms of a career.  To me, it doesnt even seem like a contest.  Ray is a vastly superior player in nearly all facets of the game.  He is much more athletic, or was in terms of valuing them in their primes.  He puts the ball on the floor, actually goes to the hoop.  He is a better passer, finisher, rebounder, defender, and honestly, if you go by the numbers...3 point shooter.  He takes, makes, and shoots a higher percentage.

Reggie always got away with very dirty tricks and tactics.  His patented kicking his leg out to create contact is essentially a form of flopping.  Ray doesnt do any of that.

Rip often gets compared to Reggie, and I can see that.  Both fairly dirty players who get by on "craftyness" if you want to call it that.  Basically grabbing and clawing the whole way through the game trying to see how much they can get away with.

Ray Allen seems like a much different player than both of them.  The only Reggie comparison i see, is they play the same position and are great 3 point shooters.  Ray also gets compared with Rip and I think the only similarities again are the fact they play 2 guard and went to UConn.

All 3 are great without the ball and moving around screens, but after that, the comparisons dont really make sense.  Once Ray loses more athleticism, i can see him adopting more of a Reggie Miller type game and succeeding in that role, however, that was Reggie Miller's game his whole career, not just when he got old.  Just as it is Rip's game.

I don't find that people try to hold Ray in a regard that he should strive to have a career like Reggies.  Personally I'd say he was already the better player.  The only time I hear them being compared is concerning the 3point records, which Ray will most likely own after this.  The other comparison I see a lot with Ray, Rip, and Reggie, is yes they are pure shooters and great off screen.

But your point holds true that I would not hold Ray in the same regard as Rip and Reggie.

P.S. and can't stand Rips antics and little tricks.

I don't understand why Reggie Miller is looked at by most as a sure-fire HOFer, yet Ray Allen was debatable.  Since Ray got his ring, I don't think it's much of a debate now anyway, but even if he had never won a ring, he was still a superior player to Reggie, and it should never have been a debate.

I agree Ray is a better player. And as Reggie reminds us ad nausem every Thursday Ray is going to break his 3 point record anyway.
Also can't stand Rip how any pro can think its fine to grow his nails and scratch the opposition with it is just appalling to me. I wonder if he does that in practice?

I don't think this is accurate.  From what I hear, Ray is pretty much a lock (and he should be) while Reggie is the one on the fence.  And as far as comparing the two, it most defintely has to do with their three-point shooting.  I could be wrong but aren't they one and two in league history in three pointers made?

Reggie got more hype, which led a lot of people to think he was better.  Reggie was an amazing shooter, and he was clutch, but Ray is both of those things and brings more to the table in terms of defense, all-around scoring, etc.

Does the fact that Ray wears a green + white jersey make you blind to the fact that he does the exact same thing?
God bless and good night!

Not true.  They have similar tricks running around screens, but Ray, to a fault, is horrible at selling phantom fouls.  On reason he misses many layups is that he tries to avoid contact with defenders in order to actually shoot correctly.  Ray also goes up for his midrange and 3 pt shots squarely and almost never kicks his leg to draw contact.  I actually wish he would do things like this a little more because it would net him and the Celtics a few more points per game.

I used to really like Rip as a player, having followed him at UConn.  But his antics over the past few years have really made me want to puke.

Yea because you know, Ray loves scratching people, holding their arms to have the offensive player try to get their arm back but then fall down to draw an offensive foul, among the many other dirty tricks.

He may be horrible at selling phantom calls around the hoop, but he does the same grabbing and scratching with his defender around screens.

I don't see anything wrong with it either.  I think more hand checking should be allowed in the game (unless you are obstructing a shot or possession with it).
God bless and good night!

Reggie had more memorable postseason moments in the clutch which is why he is held in such high regard.  Otherwise, I agree that Ray is the better overall player.

There are several reasons why Reggie is thought of so highly.  #1 is longevity.  I remember him and Chuck Person going at Bird in the early 90s.  I remember him playing against MIchael Jordan in the playoffs... and the guy was still a very effective shooter at age 39.  Playing 18 years with one team obviously makes him a legend in Indiana.  And there were several "reggie moments" ... the guy killed the Knicks.  He was unbelievably clutch.  Everyone remembers his 8 points in 13 seconds or whatever that was.

And his career stats were solid.  18 points... 47% shooting, 39.5% from three... 89% from the line.  One of the best shooters of all time.  One of the few players to have a season shooting 50/40/90 (something that Ray is trying to do this year for the first time, but will likely fall short at)

****, you called it.  Reggie Miller interjected that into a conversation just now.

My fathers been watching Celts since the 1970's and i've been watching it since the late late 90's and we both agree on one thing. Miller was pretty overrated, Allen would blow him out of his shoes. He also loved to "kick" whenever he did a jumpshot and more times then not, got the foul call for his advantage.
True Celtic = Leon Powe

Bring back the show!!!!
