just another reason to hate this guy. I have always hated him since he came into the league. And then it became worse when he called tommy out for not giving him a vote for rookie of the year. Shaq was the worst one of the worst things to happen to the league. Funny that he rips Ewing for stale moves, like he has a variety besides down low dunk or short hook. He tries to sound like hes so great but if the game was called like it should, he would be just another big fool on the court.
THe NBA owes Shaq a medal for keeping the NBA in the public eye post Jordan and pre-Lebron.
Thats a little over the top dont you think? Kobe and Wade made a pretty good contribution. The NBA shoved him down our throats from the moment he came into the league without proving a thing first. Then he rips Kobe for not being able to do it on his own, but what did Shaq win before Kobe and Wade? Like I said, he was and is able to get away with murder because the NBA wanted an icon. If the game and stern had more integrity, he would be average at best.
No, I don't think its over the top. Wade? He came out in the same draft class as Lebron so that's no good, and Kobe really came into his own in 2004 and by then we were all allegedly "witnessing" something.
As far as shoving him down our throats without proving anything, there are times when you can tell a player is going to be dominant without playing a minute, Shaq was one example LeBron another. As far as him being forced on us as the post Jordan superstar, he had already been to an NBA finals ( by beating a , albeit, weaker Jordan team) and then went on to win three titles in a row. He is also a huge personality that gave the NBA its face during a major talent dip.
There are "superstars" the NBA tried to force down our throats during the time , VC, Tracy even Jason Kidd and Grant Hill to a certain extent, but Shaq was the guy in the NBA post Jordan and pre-LeBron. SO no, I don't think its overstating it.
