Smith just agreed to terms with Cleveland, according to Smith's agent.

http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2009/03/joe_smith_agrees_to_terms_with.html

What a surprise! ::)
This just isnt a big deal to me. The Cavaliers are not as deep or talented in terms of bigmen this year as they were last year in the playoffs. They added Hixson and lost Smith until now, then they traded away Gooden. If Wallace is injured or not 100% by the time the first round starts, then they will be desparate.

The much bigger danger to us (besides Lebron James)is going to be Mo Williams and how we match up with him. Mo can and will beat us if we dont defend him well. After Rajon Rondo, this is where we will miss Tony Allen most IMO.

Tony could be back for the playoffs though right? Or is he out the entire postseason as well?

Cleveland didn't have Gooden in last year's playoffs.

In terms of last year's playoffs, Cleveland has the same big men, except they've added Hickson.  However, Ben Wallace is injured, and it's undetermined whether he'll be back for the playoffs.

I know, I was in a hurry. What I was trying to say was they are not as good as last year and that Ben Wallace did not help them as much as Gooden would have IMO. Now Wallace is injured and still will not be that effective in the playoffs if he is able to return. They will rely even more heavily on Smith and Varejao now.(I realize they used Gooden to entice the Bulls to take Larry Hughes. I thought it was a mistake then and I do now.)

They bigger point though was that I think Mo Williams is a bigger problem for us than the addition of Smith.

Well, we can hope that Marbury learns the defensive rotations really fast so that he can be a factor against Williams.

So San Antonio gets Gooden, Cleveland gets Smith and we get Mikki Moore. Not one of Danny's better moments.

  We also got Marbury...

I hope so as well, Williams seems to be the 'big PG' type like Chauncey Billups and Baron Davis that have given us (Rondo) trouble in the past. Marbury can certainly help neutralize him if he becomes a factor offensively, but I am not sure his defense will make a difference.

Have you ever watched Drew Gooden play?  He was a major defensive liability and incredibly streaky on offense.  The Cavs are much better off without Gooden.

Well obviously, I was referring to the big men chase that went on for teams to match up come playoff time. Right now Marbury is going to be a big key for us if he can give us a new component that the opposition wasn't counting on.

But saying "Not one of Danny's better moments" when you're ignoring his main signing is harsh. Kind of like Kind of like saying Ainge did a bad job in the summer of 07 because you're only talking about  FA signings and not trades.

I think the Celtics got the best player in Marbury (once he's in playing shape).  Detroit could have a similar addition to their bench in Iverson.

I get the feeling Iverson wont be willing to except his role if he were to come off the bench, Det will probably place him back in the starting lineup by playoff time.  The beauty of the Marbury signing is that his hand his forced, Marbury literally must do everything right and have success here or he'll be playing in Europe next year.

It will be interesting to see how Marbury plays against NJ, now that he has gotten at least one practice with the Cs under his belt.

and again, for what its worth, responded quite well according to all reports, both mentality wise and physically wise.

We shall see though, that is just some beat writer getting the canned responses post practice.
