From what I am reading it sounds like Scal is going through PCS, or post concussion syndrome. Being a former college football/rugby player I suffered from PCS for about a year. It is a pretty big deal and a painful thing to go through, most of your pain free day is spent in a dark room laying down. Having said this I think Scal being a smart family guy might call it quits. If so can we right off his cotract much like Portland did with Miles ? With his money and the MLE can we go after a Sheed type player or even Gooden ?

If it is determined that the injury is season ending for next year, the C's could apply for a disabled player exception.  If the league approves it, it would allow the C's to sign a player for 1/2 of Scal's salary.  The NBA may also not count Scal's salary against the luxury tax, which would be huge.

The other important part would be that insurance would likely pay Scal's salary next year...which would make it much more likely that ownership will open up their checkbooks for a full MLE deal (right now, I don't think its a given).

There is a report on the from page saying Scal could be back April 1.

interesting that that's a rule...so they'll do this, but they wouldn't wipe the deceased reggie lewis' salary off the books...go figure.

I hate to see players get concussions. This could stick with him for the rest of his life. I've seen a whole bunch of football players that suffered concussions that would go on to suffer from depression.

I hope Scal feels better, we actually need him.

I'm more concerned about Scal feeling better and coming back. He seems like a really nice guy and what's happening to him is such a shame. I'd much rather see Scals made a complete recovery than the Celtics have an extra few million.

April fools. this is dangerous, i dont think he should play for the rest of the season. If this continues this is potentially life threatening.

Do you think he could play with some sort of padded helmet on?  Like a old school football helmet or modified wrestlers head gear?

That would seem logical in this situation, I can't imagine what grounds the league would use to disallow that sort of thing.

If Wally can wear a welder's mask, shouldn't we be able to put some padding around Scal's dome?

Perhaps he could be the basketball equivalent of John Olerud?

I hope Scal is alright. He is a good bench guy. Oneof the worse parts about this is that Dirk started it and there wasn't even a foul called. How many elbows does that get to throw before he even gets called for a foul. Get well soon Scal!

I just hope he gets better.  Obviously, it would be great to have him for games ASAP, but his health should be (and is) topmost concern.

Brian Scalabrine is one of our most versatile players coming off the bench. He always knows where to be, he can spot start at three positions and not kill the team with mistakes. He will sit at the end of the bench or on the injured list if that is what the team needs him to do that day. He is a loyal teammate and never gives less than 110%. Guys like him are very important on championship rosters.

I hope he has a speedy recovery and returns healthy to help finish our championship run this year.

I've been a Scal detractor from day 1, but I must say I feel bad about this situation, regardless of if he helps the team or not, he's a human being hurt in the line of work, it stinks

I am not a huge Scal fan, but he has stepped it up the past two years. Especially this year.

I gotta give the guy credit for what he is bringing.
