What if i said to you after the Celtics lost the 07 draft lottery; "don't worry, 2 years from now we will have KG, Ray allen, Stephon Marbury and Paul Pierce all on the same team and we'll be the defending NBA champions"

I mean... I still pinch myself everyday. Just to think about how depressed I was after that lottery and the hopelessness that began to permeate... Man... words can't even describe.

I love this site. :)

It's crazy to think about it. I can't ever imagine two years ago having three hall of famers on the same team.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

i remember when boston came up with the 5th pick. i was devistated. then on draft night they traded for ray allen. i was like what is the plan here?? then when they got KG i was just energized. i soon became worried about the bench and the chemistry issue. well needless to say this team has always come through. that is why i liked the marbury signing.

when boston won the eastern conference last year i cried. i have been watching the celtics my whole life (i am 34) with my dad. when they won the title we just sat there and couldn't believe it. nothing needed to be said. we knew. i have been fortunate to watch them win 5 titles in my life...three i vividly remember with my father.

boston is truly the team my dad raised me on..and watching them win it with him will be a memory i will keep forever. now i find me watching games with my 7 and 5 year old sons. the tradition continues.....

Yeah dude, I say that all the time. About once I game I watch Paul and KG and RR trying to penetrate, get a shot off, they double, work it around, 3 secs left on the shot clock then all of a sudden they pass it to the corner for a wide open 3. And the guy who shoots it? RAY ALLEN! I LOL every single time. The guy left open in the corner all his lonesome, Ray Allen. Our 7th/8th best player is Marbury. We get free agents because they volunteer to come to town. That's why I can't handle reading people crapping on Doc or DA or Rondo, etc. What really drove me nuts was knowing full well DA would figure something out, every single time he's come through in the clutch, and week after week after week I hear folks saying the C's had nothing left to pull off. They always do. I love this team. I doubt I'll love another team more for the rest of my life. Back to back Blue Jays championship teams included. I have Kevin Garnett under my name, it doesn't get much better than that. TP for being sooo good looking.

Yeah... we need a thread like this every couple months to offer perspective.  It's insane what's happened here.  Unfathomable became fathomable.

Sometimes I have random giggle spasms...

Tis True, this adds perspective, however, if I might add, one of the problems with being a Celts fan is that whenever a squad gets *good*, one always looks for 2 titles within a 5 year span. It's kinda like Cowens/Hondo had set that in motion after '76. In a sense, it made it tough to take it, one season at a time so when Reggie Lewis passed away and we went into the long night, it was essentially a period where we'd never be good enough to have a five year window again. Now, it looks like we're in such a window, so the dual titles syndrome kicks in again. I think once they win #18, no one will be complaining (not all of us are greedy for a threepeat) until the next generation comes up for their window.

also note that if Len Bias didn't pass so soon theres no way the Lakers would have beat us in 87. and we'd be going for 19.

I remember looking at the lottery and seeing us get the 5th pick and I was motionless. Stunned. When we got Ray Allen I thought Danny must have more things planned, I thought KG but didn't think it was realistically possible. Then we got him and for days I was giddy.

I too still find it remarkable and can't quite believe it.

I think about it all the time.

I still feel like we under value these guys.

Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, & Kevin Garnett. All three were/are one man wrecking crews that gave teams absolute fits, and now they are on the same team! It was almost a foregone conclusion we would win banner 17 last year when you think about it. It also makes you appreciate their earlier year. I just wonder what would it be like if they had the same opportunities earlier.

I still look at the Bias thing as a big unknown... what if? In a sense, it's the Black Swan event which crashes a stock market, like Oct of 1929.

On the other hand, a healthy Walton and Sichting, in '87, would have eliminated the Lakers in 6 that year. Sorry to any Mychal Thompson fans out there.

Then, a living sophomore year Len Bias could have extended that crushing, into the '88 season and against a slightly better Pistons team, in terms of raw bench power and possibly '89, if we could have given more minutes to Lewis, during the prior run.
