Maybe I'm missing something here, but how come I haven't seen an article yet that sees right through what Manny is doing with the Dodgers...

This is very simple, Manny doesn't want to go to spring training (he probably doesn't need to anyways) because he's lazy.

At the same time, he's continuing to get the Dodgers to increase their offer.

He already knows he'll sign with them soon after spring training and continue to be an LA hero.

Once again, Manny wins.  I can't stand him.

Long as he's wearing a blue "LA" cap when this nonsense is over, I'll happily enjoy watching him serve as the centerpiece of my beloved Bums, just as I did throughout late last summer and autumn.

There's someone more polarizing (A-rod) for ESPN to blast at us 18 hours a day, so Manny is on the back burner.

Whoever signs Manny between the Dodgers & Giants goes from a sub-.500 team to NL West champs and a World Series contender. That sounds like its worth 3 Years/60 Mill to me, I'm anxious for Manny to sign so I can jump on that team's bandwagon and buy a jersey.

Just hope it's a two year deal, so that the franchise retains some control over the situation.

Maintaining control of Manny?  Yeah, like I maintained control over my bowels after eating the BACON EXPLOSION.

Too soon?

Yeah, that's it. I'm sure Manny has instructed the most powerful agent in sports to not take any offer so he can skip spring training. Give me a break. I hear a screaming WEEI caller when I read your post.

If memory serves, Walter Jones used to (still does?) pull this on an annual basis with the Seahawks for similar reasoning.

Walter Jones isn't a world class talent like Manny Ramirez, nor does he employ the most powerful agent in sports. You think Boras would be his agent if his priority was to skip Spring Training? Come on.

Can someone pull a Bill Simmons and compare this Manny character to me in NBA terms... I don't pay attention to baseball and this whole Boston Manny hate just goes over my head.   As an outsider I just don't get it...

Weren't the Red Sox a "cursed" franchise that had gone like 90 years without winning a World Series... and yet Manny was a key figure in helping them win titles in 2004 and 2007 while having some of the best hitting in baseball?   What's the problem there?  Help me understand it...

What do you compare that to in NBA terms?  Like... if Vince Carter had played for a "cursed" NBA team that had waited 80 years for a title and then helped them win two... but got driven out of town due to his lack of motivation and character flaws?  Is he Marbury-esque?  Is it like Rodman in Chicago had Chicago suffered for a century?  What's he like?  Explain it to me in basketball analogy.

i think boras will always be his agent as long as he makes 20 million+ a year. I don't think he cares

I saw an article on espn.com, but I didn't read it. Not interested. Not interested in Manny nor Dodgers.

If people were interested, there would be articles. I'm sure ESPN and other big sports sites count hits to articles and keeps current of online searches.

You might want to ask Shaun Alexander and Matt Hasselbeck about that.  Or the people that selected him to his nine Pro Bowls for his work protecting the quarterback's blind side.

I said that "I think" anything about why Manny's sitting out.  I merely pointed out that there is some precedent for the theory expressed in the OP.

How Walter and Manny compare across their two sports is debatable.  But it isn't fair to put down Jones as "not a world class talent."

I'll admit that I haven't followed the story intently.  However I've gone for the ride somewhat, and not taking this Dodgers offer is beyond stupidity.  He's played the market, and lost miserably, and now he is refusing to cut his losses.

Who is going to take him?  Who is going to take on the contract that he wants?  I thought for sure he would take this offer, Manny is beyond being an immature "idiot", he's committing career suicide.

It's sad because he's so gifted as a baseball player.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

Yes, totally oblivious.
We're entering a depression and this guy made around $200 million dollars over the past ten years. And his agent is a world class creep. Hard to really care about the contract situation of Manny R.
My take is that most Sox fans will always have a soft spot for Manny because he helped win two World Series and seems like a decent person, but also recognize that he's a very spoiled and selfish guy.
