Wait what?  This doesn't make any sense.  Furthermore, if this team has to reassure Rondo about his minutes, we have bigger problems than Starbury.

Just dumb.  It kills the c's chances of signing future vet free agents.  Also, why sign him and not play him that much?  They've praised his talent, seems like they're hoping to give him 18-20 minutes a game if he's in shape for it.
do it

Hmm...  that seems like the Celtics would be hurting their reputation and inviting a lot of potential legal liability for no good reason.

What is a high-ranking NBA official, anyway?  Sounds like somebody just made up a story.  My respect for the media decreases by the minute.

hurting their rep for the future AND hurting them for this season....

what's the bigger obstacle to the Cs winning another Title: Marbury on the Heat or a totally depleted bench?

even if it was a thought in their mind to block him from going to another team, they don't have the luxury of wasting a roster spot on a guy they have no intention of using.

with TA down, KG down and now maybe Scals down added to the non-return of PJ and Posey, we are insanely depleted in the depth department...

the problem is that Marbury might actually care about an obviously bogus report like this and never fully buy in to our system.

I think you have to ask yourself who would have something to gain by putting something like this out there.

the Cavs? the Lakers?.....I'm sure they are worried that he will be a difference maker for us...

Also, of course, the Celtics would be throwing away somewhere between $750k - $1 million between pro-rated salary and luxury tax, and another $750k - $1 million should the Celtics sign somebody else for the rest of the season.

That doesn't sound very savvy.

Failure of circular logic.  If the C's are worried that Marbury is good enough to beat them, why wouldn't they keep him?

The report is garbage that has no basis in reality.

I find it interesting that 2 sources would have this information but not his agent. Why in the world would he sign with the Celts if he even thought this was true. Makes zero sense to me.

This is not worth discussing as far as I'm concerned.

Ummm...if Marbury knew this couldn't just sign elsewhere (assuming he wants to play for a contender)

If the C's were impressed enough with Marbury that they wanted to keep him from going elsewhere and hurting us in the playoffs, why not just keep him?

There are about a thousand holes to this theory.

Anyone else have some?

Celtics are signing Marbury because they feel bad about releasing Telfair?

or

The Celtics are signing Marbury because they haven't had a fire arms incident in awhile?

or

The Celtics are signing Marbury just so they can have another former G-Tech guard who is "oh so fan friendly".

or

The Celtics are not really signing Marbury, they are going to string him along until the trade deadline at which point Danny is going to take of his mask to reveal that he's really Donnie Walsh.

Is that enough?

Wouldnt this not be allowed by the league? That just sounds fake and ridiculous to me.

I'm really not surprised anymore by the shabby journalism going on in NBA news. The way the league is being run by WWE principles, I can't blame the reporters for ignoring credibility.

So several Celtic players called Marbury to recruit him and encourage him to give up some loot in a buyout so the Celts can cut him?  Haha!
