Just a little off-topic, but are tinted car windows really illegal? I think they're aesthetically horrific, but prohibiting them sounds kind of Orwellian.

cops target all cars out after 2am......that is part of the job....

Exactly, at that time of night, if you are doing anything even remotely suspicious (which being stopped at a green light is), then you are asking to be pulled over.

i believe it depends on the tint level, but i could be wrong. tinted is ok, not being able to see into the car is not.

Are you sure it's illegal to have your car stopped at a green light? What if there were no people behind either car? Tinted windows as a reason to pull people over is complete bologna, too. Just another way to scrape money out of us.

And I agree with Bballtim. There's a major difference between being buzzed and over the limit and completely trashed.

i got pulled over about 10-14 times during my junior and senior year, i worked a second job nights at a gas station and was often out driving near campus at 4-5 in the morning.

Never got a ticket or warning, just a quick how do you do to see if i was drunk or not and a "have a nice night"

I guess that was profiling, but i honestly didn't care ro think about it that way. seems to me those who do are afraid they'll get tagged because they are in fact breaking the law ;D ;D

EDIT: yes, quite sure its illegal to stop for a chat in with another car in the middle of the street on a green. basic traffic law.

It depends on the state.
In MA they are. NY they are not. The laws change often though.

Why?!? I could understand if it was the other way - not being able to see from the car is not okay.

probley so that people can see in to confirm a chris brown vs riahnna incident isn't goign on in private. i think its dumb too though, just playing devils advocate.

It depends on the tint level, and also the state.  Different states have different percentages tints they allow before becoming illegal.  And overly tinted windows do become a safety issue when you can't see into the car.  Imagine pulling a car over and not be able to see 1) how many people are in the car and 2) what is going on in there.  I imagine if I was an officer it could be a bit nerve-wracking, and potentially dangerous.  I am not saying that was the case at all with Gabe, just giving a general example of the logic behind it.

Cops want to be able to see inside to see what's happening.  Talking on the cell phone, not wearing a seat belt, etc., can all be crimes that cops want to be able to observe from the road.

cordobes, they were close to putting tracking chips on cars in Mass to implement a tax for miles driven...talk about 1984. There should be rioting in the streets if that happens, but I doubt there will be.

I got pulled over for tinted windows once.  My tint was so light that you could see through the windows. The officer stopped me and slapped some contraption on my window.  I asked why I was being stopped and he said I was speeding, even though I wasn't.  I said no way was I speeding (it was rush hour in a lot of traffic so it was impossible to speed).  I asked him what he put on my window, and I was told to see if my tint was too dark.  The tint wasn't too dark, but he still gave me a ticket for speeding just to justify stopping me. >:(
