Derrick Brooks was released today, along with Cato June, Warrick Dunn, Joey Galloway and Ike Hillard. Thats a lot of talent. Derrick Brooks has 1 superbowl, and 11 pro bowls. Who is gonna pay the man with nothing left to prove?

What about Warrick Dunn? He gave tampa a home town discount this past year, now this is his second straight season starting out by being cut. Where does 2004's "Man of the Year" show up? If we could make this guy into a basketball players somehow I can't help but think he'd fit right in with the C's.

I'd love to see Brooks suiting up for the Pats on Sundays...for the right price of course.

I'm on board with that.  You know Belicheck (or rather, Pioli's replacement) is on the phone with Brooks' agent.

Belichick is salivating at all of these Pro Bowl caliber veteran linebackers and running backs being released.

But so is Pioli in KC and Pioli has a better cap number.

Brooks is about 37 years old and played in a 4-3 in Tampa. Warrik Dunn is about 34 (100 in Running Back years) and 5 ft 8. he duplicates what Kevin Faulk does, who knows our system and is a couple years younger. I'd just rather bring in 22 year old cheap draft picks. Every roster spot with a vet on it is a roster spot that a young draft pick can't have. These guys have no future. If you need them later or if they were the last piece of the puzzle I'd go for it, but I wouldn't try to bring them in for the sake of trying to improve.

I don't think you go wrong with either guy but i think Brooks has more left, and can do more. Dunn is one injury away from the booth.

I think  Mike Reiss - (who is usually right) was saying that Brooks wouldnt fit here based on the different defenses.

I think the pats are set at RB.

I love Warrick Dunn, but we already signed Fred Taylor for basically that same role.  Kevin Faulk's still a heckuva good role player, Sammy Morris is pretty good in his own right, I don't think they've given up all hope on Mauroney, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a RB get drafted.

So, I just don't see where Dunn fits.

As to Brooks, he's really nearing the end.  If he wanted to come aboard at a one-year, vet min contract (loaded with incentives), sure, bring him to camp.  But, I'd be shocked if we don't leave draft day without an infusion in the LB corps, and Brooks doesn't really help the fundamental issue of needed to get some young legs in there.

If the Pats want to bring in a vet LB as old as Brooks they could just bring back Roosevelt Colvin and/or Seau who know the system

I certainly don't see Dunn coming to New England and, from all indications, Brooks is a longshot at best.

I do agree with some others that I think Brooks has some left in the tank.  Don't see the same with Dunn.

I don't think Warrick is necessarily, uh...  Dunn.  I mean, he's playing a more limited role, and he was splitting time through the season with Graham and Williams.  He still caught nearly 50 passes and had a 4.2 yd/rush average (slightly better than his career average).  Fairly comparable to the seasons Kevin Faulk had in '07 and '08.  Those two guys strike me as being in about the same spot, career-wise; neither's your lead back, but both can be effective for ~10 carries a game and catching some passes out of the backfield.  I just don't see Dunn as much of an improvement over the guys we have - but I don't see why he can't still play at a reasonably high level for another few years.

EDIT: I just realized...  I was looking at Faulk's stats, thinking that he was really getting on in years....  and realized that he's a year and a half younger that me.  :(

Doesn't that suck?  Guess it's time to give up the dream of playing in the League... :D
