Obviously not.  Danny isn't going to spit on the memory of one of his former teammates like that.

Poor Dennis Johnson, submitted to all these indignities from Celtics fans.  First he's no better than Bernard "Never Won Nothing" King, and now we're debating whether Marbury should get to unretire his number.  What has DJ done to deserve this?   ;)

To address the question, though, I agree with CelticsWhat35, it's a really bad sign if we ever hear of such a request from Marbury.

How do you figure, Coach?  Danny spit on the franchise by bringing this clown in.

I think Starbury is a punk, too, so I won't disagree too much.  I guess he's trying a reclamation project, and he was desperate, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

DJ himself wasn't so beloved before becoming a Celtic.  Clearly not viewed as as much of a punk as Marbury is, but there is precedent for other teams doing this sort of thing successfully.  Hell, Rodman was a pretty useful pain in the neck.

The point of this thread is whether or not Marbury will ask for #3.  I think if Marbury has shown some interest in coming here, he must have a bit of an understanding of his place on the teams pecking order, and therefore his place in team history.  I just don't see hom making a big deal about #3.
Yup

#13 - last worn by Delonte - Steph probably isn't superstitious - then again, who can tell what's going through his head

#30 - last worn by his cousin - why not? right?

#8 - if he likes the single digits thats all that's left since Moore took 7

I say we give it to him, if he wants the number three, he deserves it, but only like this:

who cares what number he wears.

Besides... his star tattoo looks less like a #3 and more like a sideways M for "Marbury".

Would the number 03 work?
In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law. To pursue... natural justice. This is not vengeance. Revenge is not a valid motive, it's an emotional response. No. Not vengeance. Punishment.

The same franchise that brought in Marvin "Bad News" Barnes who claims to have snorted coke on the bench during games?  Let's not act like the Celtics only bring in saints, there have been much worse guys that have come through those doors.  Bringing in somebody like Marbury is in no way spitting on the franchise.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Dennis Johnson came to the Celtics as an NBA champion with a flair for producing in crunch time.  Sam Cassell came to the Celtics as an NBA champion with a flair for producing in crunch time.  Eccentricity aside, these guys were winners and champions.   Popularity helps.  But like them or not, they're winners.  Marbury comes as a career malcontent loser who's maniacally popular with the loser he sees in the mirror.  We know little about his crunch time accolades because his teams have been so dysfunctional, no matter the players or coaches around him, that there is rarely crunch time on his teams.

Why, Danny?  You're way smarter than this.
