Well, you've gotta admit, Mo has the playoff experience to know what a championship team needs to do  ::)

I read this story earlier and noticed that he stopped just short of a REAL guarantee.  He said "we plan on winning".  This shows both cockiness and fear at the same time.  It's as if he's saying "I guarantee it...right LeBron?"

Where the heck did you pull that crazy reasoning out of?  He said: "That's for sure. That's, that's a guarantee - we plan on winning, so to answer your question, yeah."

If anything his quick stutter was probably "hmmm, should I say this?" How does that show fear or imply he needs LeBron to agree?

Ummm...is it crazy to assume that "planning to win" is not "going to win"?  I don't know where I pulled it out of either, but I'll tell you where you can stick it.  Read it again.  This time carefully.

You're not following me. He said "guarantee" - he did not "stop just short of a real guarantee" like you said. Stopping short would be "yeah, you can say that" and he himself not saying the word "guarantee".

I'm referring to your comment that his words somehow show cockiness and fear , and looking to LeBron for backing - that I do not understand and was looking for an explanation.

PS - Thanks for the kind words ::)

Sorry for my snippiness. Knowing Mo from his Alabama days, I know he is fake brave at times.  Saying guarantee with the qualifier that they "plan to win" rather than just simply leaving it at "I guarantee we will win" just strikes me as phoney bravery.  It's like the little toady picking a fight and then turning the actual physical fight over to the bigger bully.

No worries, man.

I guess it comes down to semantics and tone interpretation. From actually listening to the interview, I don't get the impression of cockiness or fear, but to each his own.

Along the lines of that, wouldn't "plan" have to come before the word "guarantee" for it to be a qualifier? ;)

I'm still waiting for one of Patrick Ewing's guarantees to come to fruition.  Those were great.

It's sad if the Celtics need bulletin board material to get motivated.

How is this sad, theyre clearly alredy motivated, every good team can take a stupid comment like Mo's and use it to fuel the fire even more....how is it sad? please cavs fan
what is sad is the idiot guaranteeing a finals birth and getting past Boston, he should keep his mouth shut  whether he was asked or not, you're not going to see anyone on the celtics guaranteeing anything...just useless

I hate when people say that. Who's saying the Celtics need bulletin board material to win? All we're saying is that they might as well use the comment now that it's there.

I understand what everyone is saying, but to help markketch out a little, I believe that all he meant was that obviously a team of Boston's caliber doesn't need any bulletin board material and earlier posters were implying the desire for them to have their flame fueled.  I agree with his statement in that context.  However, I also agree that since Mo is out there obviously expressing extreme optimism about their reaching the Finals, why not beat them with extreme prejudice next Friday to send a message.

It's sad because the Celtics should already be motivated 110%, at the utmost degree, to win the Title. They shouldn't need any more motivation to repeat - they are the best team in the league. Plain and simple.

If Mo Williams said "Man, the Celtics stink and we're gonna crush 'em!" it'd be one thing, but he did not say that. There was no malcontent in his words towards the Finals/Celtics - he thinks his team is going to win the Finals, which means he thinks they'll beat Boston.

People have the tendency to read into things too heavily and with scorn, which is exactly what many of you are doing.  That's fine, we're all fans who love our teams, but step back from things for a moment and digest the material before calling for heads to roll.

...which has me wondering:
Is Mo related to Dick Bavetta?
He must be since he can guarantee
stuff like this. Oh, well  ::)

This is making a big deal out of nothing.

It would be sad if the Celtics weren't completely motivated to play the Cavs anyway.  These kind of comments motivate the fans, not the players.  It would be different if he called out the Celtics specifically
