KG Flying to Boston for MRI

was this his choice or the team's? they don't have MRI machines in Salt Lake City? Why fly cross country to get it done? bynum had his done in NYC...something doesn't feel right

what does it matter what Bynum did? alot of things KG does dont feel right

Well if it was decided that no matter what the MRI showed, the team would have him rest it for a week or so, he might as well get go home and get it done in Boston.

Everyone step away from the bridges, KG last night looked upset going into the locker room prolly because he couldnt get back out there and play. He as you can tell from his statement hates not playing. So i wouldnt say he was told it was season ending. as for the MRI its prolly just a precaution. If i were the celtics i would take an MRI too, Just to check. Hes flying back to boston most likely so that he can get checked out by team doctors instead of someone random in Utah.

The hospital at the University of Utah is pretty good, so he could have had it done there.  This probably means he'll shut it down for the rest of the road trip.

oh i think it is a given he is shutdown for the rest of the roadie..hopefully he can make it back for the cleveland game in march....

I think the team told him to shut it down for the rest of the trip, and he hates sitting on the bench and watching so he decided to just go home, get an MRI, and rest up. Remember last season when he was out for a while he wouldn't sit on the bench during games because he was too agitated?

Best case is a week probably to rest it and it is nothing serious. Maybe offseason scope to clean up the knee.

Worst case is microfracture surgery.

It can't be that bad can it? He was out there shooting around at halftime I have a hard time believing he could be shooting minutes after recieving a season ending surgery.

This is just precautionary I hope and he will be held out possibly the rest of the trip but nothing more.

I mentioned this in the other thread, but it looked to me a lot like Webber's injury with the Kings back in 2003. He tried to come back on that one too, and couldn't, and eventually got microfracture surgery. Hoping that's not the case, but at this point, it's certainly in the discussion for worst-case scenario.

I can completely understand being agitated on the bench. I got thrown out of my share of games in my youth and i couldn't hang around with out getting all antsy. And games that i just was not allowed to play in due to injury or what have you were just maddening because you want to go out and help your team win but you are helpless on the bench.

Faf, are you saying this is a bone on bone/cartilage situation by suggesting micro surg? If so, are there reports on this?

Or are you just looking at Micro as a worst case scenario in general for knee problems?

I'm very curious if this is a ligament tear/sprain or bone/cartilage situation. Ligament would be better it seems because those bone on bone situations just linger....

They said "strain" which about the least informative way to describe what is going on with the knee...

I don't think so...maybe some medical people can weigh in, but it seems like a sprain of one of the lig's would actually be good news because that rest could help.

If you have bone on bone that eventually needs microfracture surgery, that seems like a situation that would really plague him the rest of the way....

they don't know what it is until the MRI...strain is just a generic term to keep the media and fans at bay
