i see where you guys are coming from. However to people who aren't hardcore fans like us. The NBA regular season is really incredibly long and dull. Especially when the team your rooting for has pretty much clinched the playoffs since christmas.

Spring Training however has a bit more juice.

  • Thank you Eddie!
I could be wrong, but I think that the Sox own a part of WEEI.  Could be why it seems like they're only spitting out Red Sox propaganda 24/7.  Still, it's sad to see the Celtics and Bruins get shafted for a bunch of guys working out and warming up.  Not to mention that sports radio in LA probably talks more about the Celtics then WEEI.  >:(

They don't own WEEI, they are just partners in the same way CSN and the Celtics are...or the Celtics and WEEI are.

What about last month, or the month before that or the month before that?  They've been talking about the Sox non stop since their season ended in October.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
As much as I like the Red Sox, it does get pretty annoying hearing about the same stuff every day while the Celtics season is in full swing. They wasted soooo much time talking about potentially signing Teixiera and then we didn't even get him. Now it is all steroids talk and Oritz being sad Manny is gone- makes me a little sick.

I am a diehard Celtics fan, always have been and always will be and I get excited to hear offseason news about the Celtics- so I understand people's desire to hear all the rumors they can get- but I come here to find all of that out. The local stations really should be a bit more balanced.

on not a sick comcast obsession with the red sox, it's a sick boston obsession with the red sox. No matter what they celtics have done, are doing, or will do, the sox will always be the main team in boston, even when they are not winning.

because the red sox marketing people sold everyone that the redsox are the lakers of the MLB after 2004. they have transended actually watching games/ knowing anything about the team. They are a status symbol.

I'm a big sox fan, but hoenstly, no team in the history of sports has ever had more fans that don't know anything about the team before thier magical fevor pitch moment in 2004.

Ever want a laugh at a bar, pick the preppy kid/ "oh my gawd! like, i LOOOVVVVEEE jacoby!!!!" pink hat girl and ask them to name 5 1990-2000 red sox players. 80% of them can't do it.

HAHA that's a conservative estimate too... That was my favorite pastime in college. I had my girlfriend's friend convinced the Sox had a pitcher in the 90s named "Sully McMurphy"... He was a home grown kid the team had signed because he won a contest. This was only after she finished her story about how she was the BIGGEST Red Sox fan EVER for ALL of her LIFE!

Her response to Sully McMurphy- "My dad loved him!"
"Let me call him," Floyd said.

The man shook his head. "O.J. doesn't give out his cell," he said. "He'll call you."

That's why there is CelticsBlog.
The DVR is a wonderful thing too. Skip all the commercials and the crap.
WEEI?, I'd almost rather listen to opera or rap. The morning Limbaugh wannabes and the big afternoon blowhard are the worst, but it's all pretty annoying. I haven't listened in years, except very occasionally. Ever notice that every single time you turn that station on, there's a string of about ten commercials on.
Regarding the Sox, the biggest part of spring training so far is Papi's belly. I love the guy, but starting to wonder if he really cares that much anymore, and if his career is basically over.

completely agree with everyone. What really grinds my gears is how it's non stop red sox even in their offseason and even during the celtics regular season. I probably counted about twice when they talked about the celtics in late june-october on CSN. (right after they won the championship and when the hornets signed posey) Yet in the red sox offseason they somehow find the time to neglect the 1st place celtics and fit in a story about Rocco Baldelli's fascinating high school basketball career. Awsome.

I assume you're being sarcastic here because Papi has surprisingly lost some weight this year.

I have never lived in an area where NBA was the most talked about sport.

In Philly, it was the Eagles.

In DC, it was the Redskins.

In NY, it was the Yankees/Mets.

There's a difference between being anything close to the most talked about sport and marginalized to the extent that the C's are compared to the sox and pats.

I listen to WEEI everyday, and they actually talk about the Celtics a good amount.  The problem is, as soon as the calls start coming in, all the listeners want to talk about is the Pats and Sox.

The C's simply have a long way to go to become a point of constant interest to the majority of Boston sports fans.
