Cleveland will outbid us for either Moore or Smith, likely Smith, and we will be left with second choice. Face facts.
Not only have you confused facts with predictions, but you have omitted a significant (IMO) component that actually IS a fact - Joe Smith's relationship with KG. I don't think it would be a stretch to think that that friendship could convince Smith to take less money to come to Boston. Joe Smith seems like he'd really fit in well with the C's off the court - hanging out with the big three and stuff. I just don't see where he's fits in (off the court) with the Cavs. I just think the pull of being around people you're comfortable with (and having a great shot at a title) is stronger than the pull to make some extra cash (and also having a nice chance to win a title) - maybe that's just me.
we have some cash and cap room, the cavs owner isn't as cashed up as he once was, do they have the full mle available?
Here's what the Cavs have done since the offseason that may, or may not, have involved MLE money:
2008-07-16 Cavaliers Daniel Gibson re-signed to a 5-year contract extension
2008-09-06 Cavaliers Darnell Jackson signed second round pick
2008-09-12 Cavaliers Delonte West re-signed to a 3-year, $12.5M contract (third year is team option)
Gibson: may have been Bird Rights, so no MLE required
Jackson: third year of contract is guaranteed, which would require some MLE money (less than $900K)
West: may have been Bird Rights, so no MLE required
I'd need someone to verify this, but it looks like the Cavs have virtually the entire MLE to offer Smith, et al.
