Our problems are defintely on offense with the second unit.  In Smith, we don't get length but we do get a guy who has a reliable mid range shot.  Neither Powe or BBD has that and teams take advantage of that when they are in the game (more than their size).

In Marbury, we a real PG who can fill it up.  Obviously he has had issues in the past .  Part of those issues have been the fact that he is a score first PG.  Well, that is EXACTLY what we need him for right now.  And I have no worries with him being a cancer.  Simply not enough time for that to come into play.  Second, this is a team of veterans that wouldn't stand for that.  And finally, he can be cut at any point anyway.

Bank on it.  Banner 18 will be coming if these moves happen.  Now let's hope that OKC and NY do the right thing  ;)

Just to clarify, Smith does give us length.  He is a legit 6'10" with long arms.  He may not be a 7 footer, but he is much longer than the other guys we have.

I don't disagree, except that depending on Marbury to produce is a long shot and we'd still need House on the floor due to his shooting, but our current problem is definitely the lack of a backup wing.

I agree, although if this team adds Smith and Marbury, who are both legit rotation players, they can much more easily get away with running a comittee out there of Scal, Walker, and Pruitt.

Smith sure.

Marbury, no way.
There is nothing anyone can say to convince me that someone who has been exiled by every team he ever played for can help this team.

Sam Cassell > Marbury

Lots of nutty talents get exiled, but can follow up anexile with a stellar short term performance. Manny Ramirez, Bonzi Wells, Dennis Rodman for example. We're only looking for a few months, and then we'd let that ball of crazyness go.

We'd use him, and he'd use us.

Smith could be a reality.

From ESPN:

Word is coming in that the Knicks are closing in on some new players.

It is not immediately clear if this would be two separate trades or a three-way exchange, but I'm hearing that Oklahoma City's Chris Wilcox -- who went back to the Thunder on Wednesday night when the Tyson Chandler trade was rescinded -- and Chicago's Larry Hughes are New York-bound.

To complete the transaction(s), Oklahoma City would get Malik Rose and Chicago would receive Tim Thomas, Jerome James and Anthony Roberson.

If this is the case, I would think the release of Smith is almost a certainty.
Call me a sap, but I love my kids more than anything!

Humm.. I guess there's a good chance he gets bought out if he's not traded, but why would that deal improve those chances? In fact, I'd say they'd be slightly diminished, as Malik Rose would be a better candidate to get a buyout and they'd need to keep some players on the roster.

motivated people in short periods of time can do amazing things - even if their history proves otherwise - remember Blount's contract push?

Love the Mark Blount comparison.  I rest my case.

I understand this POV, Marbury has been an absolute disaster on every team he's played for, and he's got to be pretty out of shape by now.  But we aren't asking him to step into a starting roll, and with the loss of TA I assume you agree we've got to get another wing somewhere?  Considering what's out there, I'm open to Marbury on a short short leash

but to get both we'd have to clear more space and i wouldnt mind seeing bill walker get some minutes seeing as rookies who have gotten minutes have been sucessful pieces to teams like george hill in san antonio or courtney lee in orlando the only thing i wouldnt like about getting marbury is the fact that he'd eliminate pruitts minutes but it would add a scorer and move eddie house to the 2 with the second unit where he could focus on getting set and popping threes instead of setting up the offense

Dear Mr. Patrick O'Bryant,

I regret to inform you that we've decided to move in another direction.  It's not you it's me...

Marbury will be playing for redemption and a new contract to give life back to his career, he will be awesome
