I didn't see that one coming.  I thought for sure he'd say Kobe.  Most of the players wanted to be LeBron or Shaq.  Shaq wanted to be Nate Robinson.  KG and Ray just want to be themselves.  I don't think anyone wanted to be just Kobe, except for Kobe.

I love this answer:

Quote
Kevin Garnett: Man, I'm good with me. I good with me. I hear about all these other problems these other players have and I'll take my little problems and run with them. That's if you want to call them problems. I respect everyone's ability here, I respect everybody on how they got here, I respect everyone whose team is successful and how they got to this point. Every All-Star here is well deserving, but being someone else? Naw. Other than wanting to fit in a regular shower or something, other than that, I'm cool."

I do respect Lebron's answer a lot, though:

Quote
"KG," LeBron said. "The game, the personality, everything. Plus, he has a ring. If I could be one other player, it would be KG."

Then came Chauncey Billups' classic and unexpected answer: "A.I. So I can get my Detroit No. 1 [jersey] back."

That made me laugh

I take back every bad thing I ever said about LeBron.  ;)

Seriously, though.  I'm surprised by that.  For someone who seems to always just want to say what people want to hear, he could've easily copped out and said Kobe or Shaq.  But not only did he answer KG, he thought about it before answering.

  • The good ole days.
Apparently Devin Harris has never heard of Tiger Woods.

Devin Harris' answer made me lose some respect for him.  Out of everybody there, he was the only one that just wanted more money.

David West and Joe Johnson had cool answers, too.  Yao is apparently very well-respected across the league.

I loved how Ray and KG were satisfied with themselves. And shaq's answer is pretty funny. I bet he was that tall at around age 5 though.

he didn't ask Paul or Kobe? that kinda sucks.

He didn't ask Pierce apparently (assuming you weren't talking about Chris Paul, who's in there), but he did ask Kobe.

I agree with steve, AI's answer was the funniest. Exactly what I'd expect out of Iverson.

Interesting that after carrying Denver to 2nd in the West while Detroit has dropped down to 6th in the East, 9 games behind the Nuggets, Billups would still rather go back to Detroit. Doesn't give me much hope for Denver making real noise in the playoffs. In another way, it also shows how tight that Detroit team was.

Really didn't mind Harris saying he wanted to be a billionaire. (But, on a side note, I really don't think he was a deserving All Star, maybe as a replacement, but I think he's being overrated because his crappy team is just asking him to shoot all the time.

Gotta give respect to Lebron's answer. I think it does give some insight into him, too. His offensive game has exploded even more this year but he appears to be playing much better defense, too. I think he recognizes that is the path to championships, as proven by the Cs last year, the Spurs for the past decade, the Pistons a few years back and Jordan himself, is defense. He's not only improving his man defense but working in the system. Garnett (and Thibs) last year showed that it is about getting the whole team to play defense. That's why Garnett and Duncan are the superlative defensive forces in the league, not Camby, Kobe, Josh Smith, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul et al. who play great individual defense but don't get their entire teams to work together in a system. Camby and Kobe I think are the best long term examples of that. One great defensive player does not make a great defensive team - great defensive leaders like KG and Duncan do. I think Lebron has seen that and is helping his team's good defensive system, which to me is why they're so scary.
Go Celtics.

I think he was just having fun. And every single one of them would want more money - there's a reason why it is so rare to see NBA players leaving money on the table.
