released.  Both were released to make room for Gooden, Nocioni, Simmons, and Diogu.

KINGS ACQUIRE FOUR PLAYERS IN THREE-TEAM TRADE
Sacramento Also Waives Quincy Douby and Sam Cassell

If we can't get Marbury, then Cassell is at least still out there.  The question is:  Do have any interest in Douby?  Personally, I doubt it.

wait, what?  why would they trade for a player and waive him?  did we just get free cash and picks?

did they get some sort of trade exception?

huh?
God bless and good night!

is this the first time you've ever seen a player traded for and then waived? did you actually imagine sam was going to play in SAC? he had to approve a trade there, so....

We are so taking Cassell back. What the heck.

EDIT: I mean really, what is going on here.

excuse my sarcasm, it was unnecessary. what i should have said is they always had the intention of waiving cassell. they made $300k by trading for him for nothing (the pick will never come here) and pre-arranged to cut the guy. otherwise he would not have agreed to go to the worst team in the league.

yeah maybe my initial post shouldn't have expressed such disbelief - I just didn't expect it to be so soon...

I *still* don't get the whole Cassell business, dating back to the initial deal.

Especially, why would SAC acquire him in the first place - what's their incentive?
God bless and good night!

I thought someone mentioned earlier, that by the time he could resign that he could NOT be on the playoff roster.  If this is the case, what is the reason for resigning him?
do it

i thought players had to be released by 3/1, not signed.
God bless and good night!

honestly, I would rather have Sam as a back up PG than Mar....

but as far as the trade was concerned I never understood why Sam would waive his right to block the trade unless there was a plan in place to bring him back...

We paid them to do it, basically.  The whole thing was a sneaky little financial sleight-of-hand to get both franchises a little extra money with no actual assets permanently exchanging hands.

And I could be wrong, but I think the playoff deadline (March 1st?) is the deadline for when a guy has to be released, not signed.  So we can still get him there.

  • TRANSFORMATION INTO CHAMPION COMPLETE!!!
I'd take Marbury over Sam, but not by much, I am sure the Celtics are Sam's number one choice, and they'd be happy to have him back.

Nah, he can play be added to our playoff roster. Roy was explaining it in the earlier cassell thread. A really good explanation at that.

Cash.  They made a couple hundred thousand dollars to essentially be the middle man in the Celtics cutting Cassell.  Not to mention, those are the type of deals that GMs (and owners) do for each other to maintain good working relationships.  It doesn't hurt them any, but it saves the other owner a little cash.
