  • TRANSFORMATION INTO CHAMPION COMPLETE!!!
To me a prerequisite for this should be:

1. be a player
2. won at least 2 titles

Problem with that is then Ted Williams, maybe the best hitter ever, is ineligible.

I know, that's why Williams is not on my Rushmore.

For a "mt. Rushmore" I like going with one player from each major sport. So:
Williams, Brady, Russell, Orr.  Maybe our rushmore would have to be 5 so bird is there.

Is anyone else not totally outraged that Massachusetts didn't make the list of 5 states at all? I can understand California and New York because of the amount of teams and history in those states, but Illionois, Pennsylvania, and freakin' ALABAMA are ahead of Mass? I know people around the country can't stand people from the northeast, but for such a small state, we have the most storied franchises in sports history- especially with the Celtics...anyway, the whole thing just really annoyed me.

Yeah...  Bear Bryant was great, but he isn't Red.  Bo Jackson doesn't compare to Brady, and I can't remember who Alabama's other two were.

Red is quite possibly the best coach / executive all-time, in any major sport.  Brady has won three titles, Ted Williams is one of the best pure hitters of all time (if not the best), and Bobby Orr is the best defenseman in NHL history (and a top-four player of all-time, no matter who you ask).

It's ridiculous that Mass was left out.

Totally agree.  Our best 4 can match any state's best.  No doubt.

Bill Russell should be the very 1st head up for discussion! Then you fill in the rest. They just named the Finals Trophy after the man & yet have of the people on here leave him off.

1.) Bill Russell
2.) Ted Williams
3.) Bobby Orr
4.) Brady or Bird (Both won at least 3 titles)

I am not much for putting a non athlete in ahead of the individuals who actually played & led their teams to victory. Sorry RED I love you tremendously though!

It is pretty ridiculous but I actually had a gut feeling as the week went on that it might happen.  People are just so sick of us and the success we've had.  We are not popular nationwide and a lot of people won't vote for us even though we did have one of the greatest hitters of all time, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, one of the greatest coaches of all time, and one of the best hockey players of all time.  Oh well, I'd rather have real championships than these gimmicks.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

I am all for Boston sports also & I feel your pain, But Alabama does belong there. Just think of the guys left off the list who Hall of Famers. Barkley, Carl Lewis, Terrell Owens, Bart Starr, Jesse Owens, the great late Derrick Thomas & a up & coming DeMarcus Ware! ALABAMA deserves the spotlight for sure.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying.  I would much rather take the trophies, however, I think its a legitimate beef for Massachusetts.

Heck, Marciano is left off and many old timers will tell you that he was the greatest boxer of all time and if he isn't, he's at least in the discussion.

"Boston's Mount Rushmore"

The Pats haven't played in Boston in almost 40 years and Foxboro is closer to Providence than Boston.

Technicality?  Sure but to stick with the Patriots marketing scheme should they be allowed?  They very well could have changed the name back at any time.

Roy you get the final say as it's your question.

Well, the Pats are still Boston's team, even if they don't play there.  So yeah, Pats players are eligible.

This has to be right, otherwise the Jets and Giants are not eligible for NYC.  They play at exit 16W in New Jersey.
