According to this article Shaq would welcome a trade to the New York Knicks
http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/57295/20090216/shaq_would_welcome_trade_to_new_york/This could make a lot of sense for both teams.
Here's a trade that I think both teams would agree to, or a similar trade.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=b7kxdpPhoenix gets: Malik Rose(7.6 MIL Exp), Marbury(20.8 MIL Exp), Nate Robinson(2 MIL Exp) and a 1st or 2nd rd pick
New York gets: Shaq, Barbosa
For Phoenix it helps them right away because they will be getting back about 30 Million dollars is expiring contracts . To me, Nate Robinson and Barbosa is a wash. Nate would probably be the only one they get in the trade they will resign, but they would have the money to do it with the other 28 Mil that is expiring contracts they are getting. Maybe they can also get a 1st or 2nd round pick out of the deal
For New york This trade also works out for the Knicks. They don't mess anything up for the 2010 Lebron sweepstakes because Shaq's 20 MIL will be coming off the books the same year Lebron becomes a Free agent. Shaq gives New York a big Personality which New York loves to hold over their fans until Lebron comes to town. They also get back a good scoring option with Barbosa that isn't being overpaid.
BUT THIS IS THE BIG QUESTION, IF A DEAL LIKE THIS GOES DOWN, WOULD STEPHON MARBURY BE BOUGHT OUT BY THE SUNS? I would think he would be , because that would save Phoenix even more money . If Marbury gets traded it could definitely work in the Celtics favor.
You guys think this has any chance of going down?
