Matt Bonner and Scal do look a lot alike.  I don't think it is a big deal.  Payton hates the Celtics because they didn't re-sign him and so he takes every opportunity to slam them.

I don't know if anyone else caught it but during a broadcast last week, Mike Breen told Mark Jackson not to get uppity with him.  I thought that was going to be an issue because to me that seemed offensive, but no one seemed to notice it.

See thats exactly it. Mike Breen wasn't trying to offend Marc Jackson. Its a poor choice of words, but Im assuming Jackson let it go.

If Bonner and Scalabrine don't care why in the world should we?

This is has absolutely nothing to do with this issue but I would like to share a story with you guys that I find funny.  My girlfriend is a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala and in her village there is another volunteer living there.  My girlfriend is about 5'3" with dark hair and kind of skinny while the other girl is about 5'8", blonde and a little bigger (she played college bball) and the only thing they share is that they're both white.  Yet, since they have a lack of white people in the region, they get them two confused ALL THE TIME!  It's crazy, they look nothing alike but for them.  I just thought of sharing that with you guys.  :)

I was thinking back to Max's comment that Violet should go back to the kitchen and what an uproar there was over that.  None of the 3 are any different from the other but some cause an uproar and others are ignored.

Everyone in America should be treated on an even keel. I'm so sick of double standards and affirmative action. It's completely unfair and unjustified. Why should a less qualified black man be able to secure a job over a better qualified white man? Why should Harvard University accept a minority kid with a lesser academic record than the white kid who has elite academic marks? Lastly, why should Payton be able to make bigotry remarks when we know a white person would have been ostracized for the same ones.

Because it shows more determination and will power for a minority in Dorchester to succeed than a white person in Newton.  Many white children in affluent suburbs have the road to success already paved for them and just need not to steer offcourse.  Everybody has obstacles to overcome in life, but some groups have more difficult ones (language, money, dangerous neighborhoods, etc.).  I'm not saying those obstacles are true for every minority and not true for any whites, but the statistics are convincing (I don't feel like fetching them, but if you really need me to, ask and I will).

And plenty of white kids with elite academic marks DO get into Harvard and every minority kid who gets into Harvard is also incredibly qualified, they aren't scrubs.

I only read the first few comments.  How has this thread reached 5 pages?

Payton's comment was a joke.   You'd be a fool not to see that.   I've made the same joke about redheads.  This is silly.

I'm bored with all the anti-Payton threads.   I get it... you're still sore about his spot-on early season comments about Rondo's lack of production.  Big deal.  Enough ax grinding.

It sounds to me like GP was merely taking what is commonly and historically known to be a phrase that racist (or, in the least, not so p.c.) white people say about blacks and trying to turn it on its head in a humorous way.  While there may be some angry, reverse-racist undertones, it seems like a pretty benign comment to me.

Honestly, I was more taken aback when CWebb went into sustained riff making fun of Derrick Rose.  Rose got popped pretty good by a screen (I think by Maxiel) near the end of the Det/Chi game on Tuesday and was clearly in pain on the sidelines afterward - and he appeared to be crying.

So, Webber went into this prolonged sob fest, crying and sniffling and totally emasculating a pro athlete.  (A pro athlete who, by the way, I would put good money on to beat CWebb down in a tussle).  I thought he was pretty out of line there.  And if he wants to get all "raw" and "real" with his commentary, maybe he should discuss how he looked like he wanted his mommy and his binky during every big spot in his career - so much so that Barkley and Jet used to call him out ("he just doesn't want the ball").  Sorry for the tangent.

I understand the double standard and why some people would get upset.  I personally, dont like Payton, but Im not really offended by all this.  What someone said earlier really stuck in my head though "If Barkley had said this, I probably would have been rolling on the floor laughing."

I think lots of people on this board are just foaming at the mouth for their next shot to jump all over Payton, and for some of his comments in the past I dont blame a lot of you for feeling that way.  But im not gonna get all worked up over race just because of it.

I can't stand Payton but this is a non-issue.  Payton should be history because he's lousy at his job.  I don't want anybody to get the Cedric Maxwell treatment for something equally as silly.

But if the criteria for suspensions and apologies are based on this silliness, all you'll have for commentators are neutered versions of  Payton, steven i smith, Jamele Hill, Keith Olberman, and Bryant Gumbel.  Blithering racist unlearned morons who haven't the slightest clue as to what their talking about...   No competent commentator will take any job knowing that he/she has to evaluate every word that comes out of their mouth before they annunciate.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
instead of calling him the "glove" i'd like for him to now be known as the "muzzle"...

the guy is a racist moron...more moronic than racist, but racist nonetheless.

if i was on tv (and i'm white) and said what he did it would cause an uproar...the rush limbaugh example above is a great comparison.

i don't like it when we start applying double-standards...

Yeah. Who are the unqualified minorities whey are talking about?

The bigger problem is the unqualified rich kids who make it in due to their daddy's money. That is the real injustice.

You better get me these statistics. You should probably pull them out from a reliable source too. you know what the percentage of white people is in America? Common sense tells me that as many poor black people there are, there is many more poor white people. Your media programed mind is truly saddening.
