The trade deadline is getting closer and the Celtics haven't been mentioned in any transaction appart from the Marbury interest (that has also been quite silenced lately). All this lack of news...is it a good sign? Does it mean that we have little options to improve the roster or that Danny is simply waiting to see what players may drop to his range of action?

I wish i could see in the mind of Danny :P I would like to know which players is he targeting, what phone calls he is making or taking...

Anybody wondering if Danny is busy lately? ;)

I don't think he's looking much as far as trades go... if something comes along, it comes along, but I don't think he'll bend himself backwards to make something happen.

I don't think we have a lot of assets that other teams are that enamored with, especially when considered in conjunction with the salary constrictions placed on trades.

I think that is the key. we don't have a lot of assets to make trades because we don't have 'desirable young talent' and we dont have the expiring contracts.

Any additions will likely have to come in the form of a FA.

When is the date that bought out players need to be added to make the playoff roster?
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

I think the rule is that they need to be bought out prior to March 1, but those bought out players can be added any time prior to the end of the regular season.

Ah yes, that sounds right Roy --- waived prior to March 1 rather than added.

I've been wondering what Danny's been thinking since the night we grabbed the trophy in June.

Not gonna win a title with this bench. Period.

you have to hope that the silver lining of these last two losses to LA and SAS at home is to solidify that we need to add to our bench in one form or another.

Even if it does, though, what's the solution?  We have very few trade chips, and there's no guarantee that there will be any free agent buyouts.

i actually think that Walker and JR are chips....plus Sam's salary is one that a team could knock off the books pretty quickly.

i think a package of:

Scals
Sam
JR or Walker
and maybe a pick

could get us something useful. and i think if Scal accepted a buyout (much like McDyess did in the DEN deal) we could actually get Sam and Scals back. It would be a salary dump for the team trading and they would get a decent prospect and maybe a pick.

for instance, that package would get us Posey under the trade checker...

Tony Allen's play (i.e. lack of IQ) are hurting our chances of getting anything of value for him.  Same with Leon. Sad.

He's been thinking about 2011 and having cap space.  That's insane.  I don't care how much cap space we have in 2011 if we don't win more titles between now and then.

While I believe we need another player at least 6'10" and strong, I still cannot help but think the bench is not as much the problem, as it is the way Doc uses the bench. The guys that go out on the second unit are largely being played out of position. And the argument against playing some of the other guys is that they don't produce (fill a stat sheet).  But if using the bench differently gets players playing their best positions, why not go that route?
