and once again, Jose Canseco gains credibility

(he looked at the Mitchell report and asked "where's ARod?")

the world is a funny place sometimes

great point, he may be sleaze in oh-so-many ways, but Jose seems to be right on regarding who used the roids.....the caveat being as as long as Jose wasn't friendly with the person (Clemens) at which point he lies through his ass. TP.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a Red Sox player someday come to the surface, but none of the 2004 main guys really fit the mold

Manny hits all day, when would he have time to lift weights, never mind find someone to shoot him up

Ortiz?  in a weight room?

Pedro was thinner than Reggie Miller

like I said, maybe someone was on them, but none of them SEEM like they were

It wouldn't seem to me that roughly a third of the players alleged were on them, either.

Jeff, I'm pointing out the bizarre coincidence that no current...or relevent member of the RedSox, (Mitchell's team), is, or IMHO, will ever be mentioned.  Asking Mitchell, a board member of a MLB team, to responsibly supervise a MLB investigation would be akin to asking Barney Frank to responsibly supervise a bath house.

In terms of "the mold" of steroid, one of the interesting things from that report was that Arod was using a steroid that added "lean muscle", but didn't add bulk.  Apparently, it's a more expensive steroid, and it's harder to detect through testing.

The importance of that is people using that particular steroid don't "look" like a "steroid user", because they're not huge hulks of muscle like McGuire.  That's probably one of the reasons why people gave A-rod a pass:  he doesn't necessarily look like a tank, but rather just like a guy who lifts in the off-season (kind of like Nomar, who very well may have been using.)

Look up his 60 Minutes interview he did with Couric after the Mitchell Report.  They have some videos of it and it's hilarious.  What a great liar he is.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

  • You know my methods, Watson.
as an indians fan, keep an eye on the name travis hafner...

i personally believe he was juicing.  he was injured (shoulder) and his numbers also slumped a ton.  some say he doesn't look as big as he did...

makes one wonder...

Just in the last week or so, before this news came out, I was talking to somebody who stated that Nomar has done roids as if it were common knowledge?

There were rumors about it, but he's never been formally accused or tested positive to my knowledge.

I'm not surprised at all.

It's just a matter of time before LeBron tests positive for steroids.

So what's the big deal?  They ALL used steroids.  When the Mitchell report came out, everyone said that the players named in the report were just the tip of the iceberg. So, why is it a big deal when yet another player from the steroid era is identified as having used them?  ARod wasn't the first, and certainly won't be the last.

Hopefully players like ARod will adopt the Andy Pettitte approach. Admit it, apologize and move on.  In fact, even players wrongfully accused of using steroids should lie and say they did, because once the accusation is made you are tainted and denials are like blood in the water to the sharks.

You know is going to benefit from all of this?  Barry Bonds.

Barry Bonds is going to have some sort of gripe (action?) with (against) MLB because if players of ARods stature have tested positive for the same junk Bonds has tested for and MLB has known about it but kept it hushed up then it means MLB has hung Bonds out to dry by himself.  Granted the perjury charges against Bonds are his own doing, but if the steroids are prevalent at the MVP level with MLB's knowledge then I think Bonds has a chance to win back some public opinion.

Ya know I always wonder about the NBA and steroids.   Lebron is a freak of nature so who knows if that's natural or not.

One NBAer I always thought was on roids though was Danny Fortson.  Not early in his career, but definitely later on (like when he played with Seattle).  Early in his career, with Denver, Boston, Golden State, off court that guy came off like one of the nicest guys in the world to me.  Then later in his career he came off like one of the biggest jerks.  I remember he was on Jim Rome after he left the Celtics, and Rome was trying to get him to talk bad about the C's and Pitino, and Danny wouldn't bite, he wouldn't say anything bad.  But later when he was in Seattle it seemed like he would trash anybody.  Also what about all the techs he got later in his career?  Seemed like a complete attitude change to me.  Makes me think of roid rage and the irritability that I hear often accompanies steroid use.  I thought he was maybe juicing so he could better bang with the Centers he was being forced to match up against.  Although he never get ripped muscle-wise, so it's all just speculation on my part, based largely on the attitude change (and that really could be anything).  Just my speculation.  Danny please don't come beat me up now  :-\

old time players would have done the same thing if it was available. i think the league is a joke but i wish this would all get dropped at the same time. i think it's twisted that anyone would want soemone to go to jail over this because they are a yankee. i've heard a few people wishing for this. the league has lost all credibility but i don't think this makes a-rod a bad person. it's hyserical to me too the way everyone wants to criticize arod for cheating on his wife. what percentage of pro athletes DON'T? 10 PERCENT? less?
