Mo Williams and Rajon Rondo were candidates, but David Stern and the NBA went with the familiar face of Ray Allen as Jameer Nelson's All-Star replacement.

Allen will be making his ninth All-Star appearance.

The Celtics' shooting guard was also an injury replacement during the 2008 All-Star game, but is widely believed to be more deserving of the spot this season despite the presence of other guards.

Allen scored 28 points in the game and was considered an MVP candidate that day, but the award went to LeBron James.

Rondo mentioned in the same breath of Mo Williams and Ray Allen.  That's equally as sweet!!

Good for Ray but I was hoping he'd get the rest.

Wasn't Mo Williams whining about not being selected?  He's going to be ticked off!

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Finally!

If he performs like he did last year he should win MVP. He deserved it last season, but they fell for Lebron's padded stat. It was just so blatant what Lebron was doing. Lebron is a great player, but sometimes it's pretty obvious he's a business man in a basketball jersey.

This almost makes up for House getting jipped.

celtics.com says he has been picked to replace nelson

Call me sick or whatever you want but I would have liked all our players to be out of All-Stars weekend just to relax for the final part of season + playoffs.  I am sure Ray Allen wanted to get away with the family instead.

This is good for Ray and good for us - we can stop arguing the obvious point that he SHOULD have been selected.
But really... this will probably be just like last year. Ray shoots ~30, deserves MVP and it's given to the one player Stern decides will best represent the league. BronBron is done... I pick Howard for this year.

Congrats to Ray.  More than deserving in my eyes.

Great ovation at the Garden last night when they announced it.
