Now that Bynum and Nelson are down with injuries, do you think LA will go after Joe Smith and Orlando after Marbury?  And if that happens, what will the Celtics do to get a big and a point guard that they need for the playoffs?  Any other good players that the C's can obtain on the cheap?

I'm not sold on Pruitt.

Baby can somewhat play the PJ role, but he still doesn't provide the length we need and although POB has the length, he doesn't have the game, not yet anyway.

I don't think the Lakers need Smith, but yeah, it seems like Orlando may need to role the dice on Marbury, Tinsley, or someone else.  They plan on going deep into the playoffs and I'm not sure Anthony Johnson is an adequate starter.  I guess Turkoglu could play the point if he had to.

The question is though, what do we do if those two are taken by other teams?

I'd be happy standing pat. C's right now have enough to win it all. Barring injury of course.
Lots of the names floating around are way past their prime, or overrated, or simply not improvements over what we have.
I mean, we just beat Philly without KG and Scal. How desperately do we really need a big
man?

I'm really not expecting either one of them honestly.  I think we would be real lucky to get either one.  I don't really see why either player would get bought out.  Smith is a good role model in Oklahoma and I don't think the Knicks will be doing Marbury any favors as far as a buyout.  It looks like we're going to have to make a trade to get help.  Maybe a small deal for something like Earl Watson/Robert Swift.  Their value is pretty low right now.  Not the greatest players but an upgrade from POB and Pruitt.

If Ainge fails to get anyone significant I could see him signing Scot Pollard and activating Cassell.  A healthy Pollard would help in the playoffs.

Speaking of Pollard, he's been spotted at a lot of Celtics games recently.  Anyone know why?

Its a shame McDyess didn't come to Boston, he strongly considered it, and now is strongly second guessing himself for not..he would've been a great fit

He announced the game at Sacramento and I think he did something for Comcast.  Yeah, McDyess would have been sweet.

The Laker, Cavs, Spurs and Hornets are all teams that could also make a run at Smith.  Even Orlando could use him.

But there is also a greater chance he never gets waived.

Same with Marbury.

Celtics need to look at other opportunities to improve the bench.

I'm worried we won't get a veteran big.  POB better develop quick!  :-X

The way Davis is playing, I think that a vet big is becoming less and less necessity, and more of a luxury.  I think another perimeter player (either wing, or PG) should be the top priority, since it is clear to me that Doc does not have confidence in Pruitt...and having to rely on Allen in the playoffs is incredibly scary.

Perhaps McDyess isn't beyond the realm of possibility. It depends on what happens in Detroit these next few weeks.

If Joe D decides to blow up the team, and take them out of the playoff run in favor of completely rebuilding the roster, then it's possible that he'd extend McDyess the courtesy of a negotiated release to sign on with a championship contender.

Chances are slim this would happen, I admit. McDyess is the classy kind of guy that would probably tough it out in Detroit, no matter how bad things got.

I don't think there is really any chance of that happening.  And I don't think McDyess really ever considered going anyplace by Detroit.

I agree, I don't think McDyess ever really considered leaving Denver for anywhere else but Detroit after the Billups trade. It's widely assumed he'll sign on again with Detroit next year to recoup some of the money he gave up to go back to the Pistons.
