baseball salary cap

 if it were to happen(seems impossible) how do you  think the sox would compete? do you guys think the sox braintrust is that much better than opposing teams that  they would consistentlt stay at the top? i think it's a joke that there is no cap and teams like the yankees and sox have a ridiculous unfair advantage every year and this change  would be a long time coming. would'nt it seem a lot more earned if the sox one when there was an even playing field? is there any way possible this happens?

I think the Red Sox could put a team out there.  Look at the team now.  We drafted a lot of these guys.  Pedroia, Lowrie, Youk, Ellsbury, Lester, Papelbon, all guys we drafted.  Yes management has made some terrible signings, Lugo for 9 mil and Drew for 14, but if there was a cap, these signings wouldn't happen so often.  Unfortunately, there's probably zero chance for a cap to ever occur due to how out of control the spending has gotten.  When the richest team spends 10x as much money as the cheapest team, it's just not possible to even that out.

The sox would be fine.  they spend their cash, but if forced to not spend it they have enough great scouts and farm system to adequately prepare...

fine?  They would be better then most teams.  just because teams would be spending similar amounts, they have a management team in place that would enable them to remain better then normal. 

They would still be able to get people to take 'less' to come play for them rather then play for a team like Pittsburgh.  They would still have cheap young players which would enable them to spend more on the 'stars'.

People point to the league being a croc because they assume if you spend the most you win but look at the last 10 WS winners.  you will see that it isnt true.  baseball has plenty of parody.  of course it is annoying to watch the yankees do what they did this winter.  and I am sure for the small market teams it is annoying to see boston do what they do.  but just spending money doesnt get you the ws.

It is also important to remember that with a salary cap comes a salary floor.  I just read if you were going to have a salary cap of 100 million you would likely need a floor of around 80 million.  Now, the Marlins are annoyingly cheap, and it annoys me, but to require them, for example,  to spend 60 million more then they did last year just to comply doesnt seem 'fair'.  would they just have to way overpay to get people to play for them?  does that really accomplish anything?

Exactly, and look at the better players on the Red Sox.  I believe Drew and Ortiz are the two highest paid players on the team, they were god awful last year.  While Youk and Pedroia who were the two best hitters were two of the cheapest guys.  Our team won with young guys last year.  Jon Lester was another cheap young guy who was our best pitcher.  This management is good enough to deal with a salary cap.  Minus Billy Beane in Oakland, I'd be willing to say we have the second best management in baseball.
