Remember the Farmar / Rondo comparison thread ...

I remember that many people on that board insisted that Farmar was a superior passer to Rondo.  What were THEY smoking?

Farmar is good.  I bet if he was our starting PG he would be much better than he is with the lakers and probably put up better stats than Rondo.  However Rondo is by far the better fit for our team and makes us much better than we would be if we had Farmar instead.

Rondo also has a much higher potential.   I would love to have Farmar come off our bench though.

Wait a minute, people decided that Farmar was a better passer because of the Rookie Sophomore game?  (I totally missed this, so I'm just reacting to what I'm reading.)  It was the Rookie Sophomore Game.  I could conclude Ray Allen's a better scorer than Lebron James based on last year's AllStar game, but even I'm not that crazy.

Farmar's got skills, no doubt, but I don't really think anything that happens during AllStar weekend is a good reflection of relative ability.

He had his chance to beat out Fisher for playing time and hasn't been able to. I think he'll end up being more along the lines of a Delonte West, a combo guard off the bench for most of his career.

Ya I could see him being a D West type for a championship team (which he is).  But I bet he replaces Derek Fisher as the Lakers starting PG next season. 

I also think D West could be a starter somewhere a couple years down the road.

Assists stats are some of the most misleading in terms of PG skills IMO. A player only gets credit if his teammate makes a shot, regardless of how good a passer the player happens to be. A player on a team full of poor shooters has a worse assist average than a player on a team of excellent shooters. The second player possibly gets his All Star selection and a new contract based on a false stat. Switch the players and the whole scenaro is changed. 

I do like Farmar as a player, he seems to be well focused defensively and a decent ball handler against the press. I dont see him starting for the Lakers for a couple of years because they will still need reliable 3pt shooting from the PG to spread the floor for Gasol, Kobe and Bynum. He is just not that good of a shooter yet.

When/if he develops a quick enough release to go with a high percentage jumper then he will get a chance to start, unless he goes to another team. For now and next year, pencil in Derek Fisher to start for the Lakers at PG.

Right now, seems rather laughable...unless of course you are comparing the size of Rondo's hands to Farmar's ears.

Assists can be misleading in a single game but over a season they do provide a decent measure of passing ability. It also reflects how much you have the ball as well. Chris Paul gets so many assists in part because of how much he dominates the ball.

Farmar isn't as good as Rondo, but Farmar is a very good player and I wish the Celtics had him.
