How would you guys rate TA's play against the Kings? Tommy and the other announcers were gushing over him but I was slightly less thrilled. Every time he goes to the basket it's completely out of control... sometimes it works out and he looks like lightning out there. A lot of the time, he crashes and burns, whether that be through a turnover, a bad shot, a charge, etc.

Not to mention, he made four terrible plays that led to turnovers during garbage time (ok, it's garbage time, but still. if you turn the ball over in garbage time against scrubs then there's no way in hell i'd play you when all the chips are on the table). Despite the box score saying he had only one turnover, I'm positively convinced he was responsible for three more even if he wasn't given credit for them.

Could the team seriously be better off not playing TA at all? Powe, although struggling, is still great at posting up and drawing the contact. Baby, although I think he's pretty overrated by people on this board, has his moments where he shows some impressive shooting and agility for a big guy. Scal's even been playing well and really allowing the floor to spread. Bill Walker bears playing, even if just for a few minutes, because he shows some promise. Yet TA... you already know what you get from him. Turnovers galore and a rapidly collapsing defense (since he can't shoot and he has a tendency to be a black hole on offense).

To finish my little rant, I also would never play POB ever again. He's so uncoordinated and unathletic that is blows my mind... he has more airballs this season than the rest of the team combined. Also, 6.1 turnovers per 36 minutes for a 3rd year player? Give me a break man.

I'm a TA hater, and I always have been. That said, I root for him to do well, and in the 2nd quarter he came in and played very well, especially since he'd been out for 11 games. Then, in garbage time, he committed a bunch of idiotic turnovers, especially that inbounding vilation.

I've made my stance clear in the past. I've never liked the guy, I didn't want us to re-sign him, and under no circumstances do I want to see him playing meaningful miniutes in the playoffs. He cannot be trusted to take care of the ball, and his playmaking does the team more harm than good, especially since he's a ball movement killer.

i dunno but just like tony, every time powe touches the ball nowadays its a turnover waiting to happen

tony played well at the 2nd q, got pretty sloppy at garbage time. baby was huge(no pun intended) as well as eddie. powe looked much better than the previous games but still below people's expectations.

i dunno how u could bash tony being a black hole on offense without mentioning powe. it really irks me when he forces it instead of passing the darn ball

great effort from the bench anyway

TRADE HIM!!! - trade ideas:

Sefelosha from Chicago
Damien Wilkins from OKC
Rasual Butler from NO
Ricky Davis from LAC
MO Evans from ATL
Jarvis Hayes from NJ

I just don't like his game, nor do I think he fits our needs.
Can't stop, Rondo!

  • You know my methods, Watson.
i agree jdub...i believe that tony could become a chip in a trade...not sure of his value, but i just don't think we need him and a part of me hopes that he's being showcased.  i just don't trust tony in a playoff game and i'd rather pruitt or walker gain confidence as they should get some playing time.

If - and that's a big if - he has some value in a deal, I would not hesitate to move him for a smarter player.

TA did not miss a shot last night. He was solid, especially in the first half.   He has not played for over 10 games due to an injury.

Not the right time to get on him.

His play against the kings was really good (for him) He made some nice passes, decent defense and was 5/5 from the field .. the 4 turnovers were bad of course
Maybe the time off got him to remember his motto and phrase of "K.i.s.s : Keep It Simple Stupid" because thats what he did, kept it simple.

why is powe such a scrub all of a sudden? what could you get for leon/tony

Agreed.  Anyone else on the bench gets bashed when they play as bad as Powe has.  Powe has gotten a complete pass on his poor play and lack of improvement in his game (he's still the same player he as when he came into the league).  I'd rather trade Powe more than Tony, as BBD can do some of what Powe does and a lot more.  That being said, I wouldn't mind trading Tony, depending on what we get back.

heck, as a known critic of tony's, I'll go a step further and say that was a hell of a game for a guy who was asked to step it up big.

Don't forget, when he went in, paul had just picked up his 3rd, and according to dickerson, Doc had told tony in the huddle that he was the 3 for the rest of the half. tony then went in there and had a great run.

I mean, i will need to see this for weeks at a time before i change my overall eval of him, but whats the point of watching if ya can't be impartial?

Tony had a great game, TP TA, keep it up!

I think TA is capable of good and/or big games.

I still just don't think he is a good fit for the needs of the Celtics bench.

Did everyone catch the dribble that got away from him as he crossed mid-court?  I swear that sometimes he forgets he is dribbling while he is dribbling.

He did a nice job overall last night though.  I just wish he'd concentrate on D (his strength) and forget EVER handling the ball unless he is slashing to the basket.

I agreed with you up until I saw Ricky Davis on your list.  Have we forgotten that Ricky mocked PP behind his back when here and DA basically had to ship him out of town with the other cancer Blount?

I don't mind trading Tony, but if those are the players we are to replace him with, I'd rather keep Tony.
