I'm just worried that POB doesn't have the fire.  The fire is something that CANNOT be taught.

Who knows? I don't think we can trust Doc's early opinion of youngsters, this is a guy who was way to hard on Rondo, Gomes, and Powe, etc.

Anyways - its not our money and if someone offered me 1.5 million to play backup center for the C's I'd take it, and POB is a lot more useful than me, so I don't blame POB for taking the contract.

If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at Danny - but that's a bit harder these days.

I have never seen a 7 footer with so little body strength. Boykins could back down POB if he wanted.

I think O`bryant needs at least 2 years before he can contribute to a team in the NBA.
so true.  And it's not going to work if he's thinking he's going to get much stronger without putting on significant weight.  This guy should be forcing down calories around the clock  If he gets up to pee, he should down a weight gaining shake.  I think 20 lbs would do more for his game than anything else he may be doing.  And I don't buy that someone simply can't gain weight.  If he's taking in 5000 calories/day, take in 8000 or more.  Heck, take a bong hit and try the Michael Phelps diet.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
POB was a nice idea, but it's apparent it simply isn't working out...he doesn't have the DRIVE to be an nba player.

i see glimpses of talent, but it's always easier to show that when the game is over, you're leading by 20 points and being guarded by another 12th man on the opposing team.  doc has stated there is "celtic speed and patrick speed..." and THAT will spell POB's demise.

we have an outstanding big man coach...yes, you can teach a kid skills, but you canNOT teach a kid desire.  POB is NO robert parish...

POB isn't even an acie earl...

Exactly...kid has no heart, no desire to compete - when you watch him play in garbage time he treats it like its garbage time - a player hungry to get on the court would treat any playing time seriously...

POB is just one of the 100's of players to have made the NBA on talent, but to have fallen short of their potential because they don't really love the game...

Indeed. You cannot coach effort.

Paddy was lazy in college. He built his numbers in a conference that historically has no size.

And then, confronted with a seven-figure contract, he didn't find any intensity. There are good, hard working Americans across this country with no jobs and this guy doesn't think seven figures is a reason to work hard.

I find that morally offensive, frankly.

Cut him. Now.

What Bernie Madoff did his investors was morally offensive. Patrick O'Bryant?? Come on, dude. He's just a bench player on a basketball team. What about him makes you so angry? The fact that he is tall and has some talent, but is failing to crack the rotation on your favorite team so we can match up better with the Lakers?  It's only a game. I know we are all fans here, only a handful of you can match my history with this team, but come on, a little lighter on the salt.

I don't find taking a million dollars for nothing amusing. I also don't find this kind of sorry work ethic worthy of wearing a Boston Celtic uniform.

And you're kidding yourself if you think this guy has professional talent. He doesn't.

Danny Ainge obviously thinks he has "professional talent."  He signed him to a professional contract.

Tommy Heinsohn also seems to think this guy has professional talent: "I like to see that kid play. He's going to make some mistakes out there. But he has a world of talent."

Be patient, Bo. Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither are good centers.

footey...i respect your opinion, but can we please stop with the "well, danny and tommy said this about so-and-so which obviously means there's no way they could fail" type of stuff?

danny has made mistakes and tommy can, at times, be delusional in his talent assessments.

POB is a flop...it's no crime.  but to continually defend the guy makes your comments kinda comical.
"It was easier to know it than to explain why I know it."

I am not ready to call POB a flop yet.  As long as he is still on this team, I will assume that he has a chance to develop into a player, with some more work...and especially some more strength training.  However, I have absolutely seen enough to say that he is no where near ready to contribute to this team right now...and thats all that matters.

Andy,

Thanks. I am not trying to be funny. I am quite serious. I think the jury is out on Patrick O'Bryant. Yes, Danny and Tommy have been wrong before. My only point is that it is too early to declare O'Bryant a failure. Is he ready to contribute meaningful minutes? No, I concede he is not. Could I envision him part of a rotation next year, assuming he continues to develop, learn the rotations, get stronger, and mature? Absolutely.
