Right off the bat I realize there are probably a ton of things that makes this scenario extremely unlikely/impossible

That empty the bench article from a day or two ago about what if the celtics had not made the trades got me thinking what if we had kept Joe Johnson? Furthermore what if Doc had failed to get that squad out of the first round and had been fired in favor of D'antoni. I figure with D'antoni our starting five would be
C Big Al
PF Gomes
SF Pierce
SG Joe Johnson
PG Rondo

with Perk, Delonte and Allen/powe as the guys coming off the bench because D'antoni only uses an 8 man rotation.

I love our current squad and the championship but that would be a pretty exciting team to watch (on offense anyway).

I'm lazy so I'm not going to research this but it just occured to me that the pick we got from phoenix and used to get rondo was probably a part of the joe johnson deal so this roster is even more implausable. But nevertheless if anyone is looking for an alternative celtics roster in the video game universe I think this would be a fun one to use.

PG - Billups
SG - Joe JOhnson
Sf - Pierce
PF - Big Al
C - Ben Wallace

6th Man:  52 year old Larry Bird if his back had never gone out.

Aren't these the type of scenarios we comtemplate when the team is doing bad?  What's the point of a "what if" when the reality is better?

we should trade Rondo and TA for Billups and build on Pruitt for the future.

is it really that crazy? dont you ever think "what if danny traded rondo and kept Delonte, couldn't the big 3 help any PG get better?"

i love rondo, but when Ray is gone we're gonna need a guard that can be a consistant scorer, our winning and losing already is decided on his play.

Hey if we had a ghost coaching we would be unstopable. Anybody remember "the 6th man" with Shawn and Marlon Wayans???

It is that crazy to trade a future all star and probably the second fastest point guard in the league if you are thinking about the future. If your concern was here and now, and winning while the big three are healthy then I can see it. But I have seen nothing from Pruitt that suggests that he's a starting NBA point guard, let alone one you can build a team around.

I don't think Rondo is a franchise caliber player, but I do think he's someone you can build a team around, if that makes sense. He's a valuable piece to have when the big 3 are gone. His vision is excellent, he is quick as lightning, and he plays very good developing into great defense. He is an inconsistent scorer because he plays with three prolific scorers an has trouble establishing a rhythm for himself. After the big three leave I would not be surprised to see his scoring jump and his dimes fall.

I like Pruitt and think he should get more burn, but I think his skill set is easier to replace than Rondo's. It's a lot easier to find a shooter than it is to find someone as gifted as Rondo.

When the big three depart we will have a solid foundation for a starting five. A defensively gifted center and an All Star caliber Point Guard. That is a future you can build around.

Oh and No, I never think that Delonte could be better than Rondo, and I love Delonte.

Rondo hits the floor 4-5 times every night.  He shakes himself off and keeps playing.  Delonte breaks his wrist.

what if we drafted...
1995 - Michael Finley - SF
1996 - Kobe Bryant - SG
1997 - Tracey McGrady - G/F
1998 - Paul Pierce - G/F
1999 - Manu Ginobli - SG (Second Round)
2000 - Jamaal Magloire - C
2001 - Joe Johnson - SG (10)
2001 - Tony Parker - PG (11)
2002 - Luis Scola - PF (Second Round)
2003 - David West - PF (16)
2003 - Kendrick Perkins - C (20)
2004 - Al Jefferson - PF
2005 - Nate Robinson - PG
2006 - Rajon Rondo - PG
2007 - Rodney Stuckey - G

Of course we would have agreat team and we would probably draft last every year and this could never happen... It's funny that so many good players got by us though.

Would you have taken Nowitzki in '98 over Pierce?  That was Pittino's plan, but Donnie Nelson foiled it.

Now thats a good question.  I wanted Dirk then, based on scouting reports and stuff Pitino said.  It worked out fine for us, but I would probably take Dirk.

I was actually jealous of the Raptors getting Vince Carter for the first couple years, but I'm definitely glad we got Paul instead of him.
