Great Broadcast Tonight

Tonight's game was enjoyable on a lot of levels (the blowout, the Celts looking sharp, seeing Bill Walker play for a long stretch...), but the broadcast itself was an excellent one.

I really enjoyed the interview with Wyc.  The guy is really impressive, and seems to be a genuinely nice person.  I loved that he came right out and said what he feels the C's need - and that Danny will get him.  And I thought it was cool to see him be truly touched by Tommy's kind words to him.

Tommy's retelling of the near Labor Strike before the 1965 All Star Game and giving some insight into the genesis of the Player's Union got a little long winded, but it was interesting stuff. 

The old time footage of Tommy's offensive arsenal and the All Star game were great too.

And finally, the interview Walter was a nice touch.  Tommy's predictably exuberant "I LOVE WALTAH" got me all nostalgic.

Maybe I'm getting soft (all right I am a softy I guess), but I thought the broadcast was noteworthy tonight.

Someone mentioned that in the game thread (cordobes? crownsy? something with a c haha)... They were dead on. Agreed... tonight was just a fun game to watch and take in.

It's hilarious that Heinsohn averaged 28 shots per 48 minutes. Even Kevin Durant doesn't shoot that much.

They didn't call him "Tommy gun" for nothing.

I haven't seen games from that era, but wasn't pace of game much faster so more shots?

I always end up appreciating the broadcasts from home lately, too. We don't know how many more years we will get out of Tommy. He's still great to listen to...if you're a c's fan.

I have to agree. Interesting broadcast with Wyc and Tommy's labor story. Also kept Tommy from complaining about refs, which makes him much better.

Any chance we could get Wyc in for 10 games a year? Something like the Cousy arrangement? He was interesting and has a lot of perspective.

on the flipside I got the homers from Cleveland the other night, it was totally appalling homerism, cheering etc...the likes we have never seen...and that is saying something

except that time wyc complained about palmer not calling a foul for gabe, which was hillarious.

Wyc: "both arms around gabe's waist on that drive, but hey, i guess we don't get that call."

You know Tommy was fired up to give that call.  It was one of his favorites. 

Sadly he no longer has the "Redhead from Needham" line to work with, so it was extra fun to hear him give an old standby.

I completely agree... there were like 10 times last night I was just smiling and laughing listening to Mike and Tommy go back and forth like guys at a bar... my favorite was after the Legal Seafoods Trivia though...

Mike:  Most FG attempts in a game.. you'de think Jordan... or Elgin Baylor

Tommy:  (Laughing)

Mike: But you'd be wrong... it was Tommy.

Tommy:  You know, I think Frank Ramses took more shots than me.. .but he wasn't a starter.

*Silence*

Mike:  Hmm... I don't know if I buy that.

Tommy: No it's true!

Mike:  Hmm... I think we might have to look that one up.

I agree on the post, however, doesn't it seem irresponsible for Wyc to be commenting on needing more players?

1.  What about his current players?
2.  Does this hamper Ainges ability to play hardball, with other teams know that the owner is pushing for 'more beef'?
3.  What is he telling the fans if a trade or signing doesn't happen?

My last thought is that there is a deal already worked out, but for timing reasons, it's not announced yet.  It's the only reason Wyc would comment, in my mind.
