Isn't THIS a little bit presumptuous?  Why assume Giddens and Walker are are better than 15 of the 30 or so players drafted before them, just because Ainge was the one that drafted them?  Are the other teams just so thick that they didn't think to draft these guys themselves?

Not saying these guys are going to be busts, I have faith that the team *might* have made some savvy picks here (of course they could have done better, but most teams could as well)...  And it's not like I'm against rooting for/hyping up your home team guys..  But if they were lottery players, they would have atleast gone early 20s, right?  What if these guys are the the 30th and 47th best players in the 08 draft, should I be riled up for that?

O'bryant and Miles were lottery picks. Experts have all said that Giddens and Walker would've been lottery little to do with their talent level.picks had it not been for some particular circumstances like "attitude problems" and injury concerns. They had

Could not disagree more with this. Paddy was a misspent lottery pick, and anyone who saw him play in college knew that. Miles, I don't know about. But being deemed unable to play isn't encouraging.

Billy Walker I saw a bunch of over a year and a half in college. The bad condition of his legs make calling him a lottery pick erroneous, as does his tendency to blow up emotionally. Giddens has shooting issues, and to a lesser degree character issues. I understand the desire to support Ainge. He had a great summer. Last year. But it's hideously presumptuous to call everyone he's added a lottery pick just because he added them.

Today, we do not have a quality big to back up Perkins and we do not have the shooting or defense off the bench we had last year. This is not a title team, in my opinion, and the original premise I agree with. This has been a depressing, deflating summer after winning the title, one more in line with the Ainge of old. This is a team that will demand increased minutes from the Big Three to meet the demands of a weakened bench, and that will translate into injuries, fatigue, losses and playoff problems. It is the same mistake Red made in the late 1980s - pinching bench pennies.

Next winter, we're going to regret not resigning Posey. Maybe not in four years, but we will in the primes of Garnett, Allen and Pierce.

I especially recommend the two Game Threads I referenced. They bring back a ton of good feelings and the membership at this site could use some good karma about right now!!

Nice old days... I'm sick of these feelings I have over the past few weeks!! Santa has been very cruel to us, that's enough, I think we got our lessons...

And he did finish...

  • Basketball is like chess, only without the dice
I'm very comfortable with everything I said since the off-season:
- Maggette is grossly over-rated.
- Not signing Posey was a huge mistake.
- This roster needs height and perimeter shooting at the wing and more length and defense at the post.
- Tony Allen and Rondo do not have good/decent/average/whatever jump-shots.
- Scalabrine would see more minutes than advertised.
- POB would not be the backup center this season.
- Bill Walker wasn't ready to contribute right away.
- The axioms "there's more than a way to skin a cat" and "replace X by committee" are very suspect when the conversation is basketball.

Nick, just out of curiosity, where's your "Our youngsters have developed their games a lot this year!" thread?  ;) And what about those Hollinger threads? Do you still keep your opinion that it was idiotic to say the Cavs were the superior team and that the C's record was better than what they deserved?

Yeah, I still live by those comments. Hollinger's math is idiotic. At that time the Celtics were a better team. Now, not so much. In another month we could be signing a different tune.

I'm not going to get into the Hollinger discussion again. That's old. But his mathematics in that power poll is ludicrous.

And I do think at least three youngsters have improved. Rondo and Perk have taken major steps forward. Powe has stepped back. Baby is about the same. POB is a joke. Pruitt is a better player. I reserve judgment on the rookies.

Why? I heard it was the same mathematics that the BCS computer uses to determine which two one loss colleges get to play in the national title game.

Perhaps the NFL can use computers to determine who gets to play in the Super Bowl right after the regular season, right?

Perhaps the NBA can use computers to determine that Cleveland and the LA Lakers can square off right after the Regular season.

Perhaps Major League Baseball can simply use computers to determine the Yankees are the World Champions and save us the agony of watching MLB this season (particularly the baseball fans).

I turn 50 this year and need to work on my golf game so I can get on the senior tour after I lose my job.

Lets use computers to determine sports champions and quit wasting everybodies time agonizing over their favorite teams on an internet messageboard!!!!!!
