Okay, exactly how accurate were your opinions before the season started? What were you saying back then and are you saying the same things now?

I'm really quite amused at the doom and gloom around here and the calls for massive change and trades and firings and so on. Am I the only one around here that's not panicked? Am I the only one that realizes that not every championship team plays as well as the 2007-2008 World Champion Boston Celtics? Heck few teams in NBA history have.

So for a laugh I went back and started reading some of the posts from before the season and I just love the 180's that many, many, many of our posters have made. I fully recommend going back and reading through these threads because they'll make you feel better but also realize that maybe things were all great back then just like things aren't all that bad now. It's a slump. It's going to end and then this team will have learned some valuable lessons and the march toward banner 18 will continue.

Why the Celtics could conceivably be a better overall team this year

Okay, some of the threads are fun and rejoicing and others question how we got here and the decisions that made this particular team what it is and yet others are there to see how right or wrong we all were and are.

Have fun!! It's a lot of reading but it is YOUR history here at Celticsblog. And BTW if you don't like these go back and read over some others in the Search area. There's some really entertaining stuff there!!!

Well, no major regrets here.  My concerns at the beginning of the season are the same they are now, namely, the loss of Posey and the failure to upgrade the team in any way.

I thought the team would turn out okay, and still do.  I wasn't predicting this type of slump or a #3 seed in the East, though.

My dream.

Posey and House resign with out using the MLE

Diop and Duhan for a split MLE.

TA and the 1st used to trade up and get Rush.

Take a flyer on O'Bryant if you can sing him for a minimal contract.

PG Rondo    Duhan   (House)   Pruitt
SG Ray      House   Rush
SF Pierce   Posey   Scali
PF KG       Powe    Davis
C  Perk     Diop    O'Bryant

The wrong fourth of that dream came true, that's for sure.  ;)

I said something along the lines of them winning 19 games in a row then immediately going on a giant losing binge...I said it, I swear  ::)
Yup

I especially recommend the two Game Threads I referenced. They bring back a ton of good feelings and the membership at this site could use some good karma about right now!!

Well, this season, I wonder if Danny has really put Doc and the team in the best position to repeat.  I can't conclude that he has, and it's disheartening a bit.

Yep, pretty much nailed it. ;)

And perhaps a few miles in the rear view mirror will help change your mind on how you felt about these debates:

Had to chuckle when I read this from Tnerb02:

How about KG for Marbury? We need a backup point guard right?

It was funny then and it's funnier now.

one thing i noticed is that a lot of people wanted to see what Walker and Giddens would add to the wing with the loss of Pose.

methinks it is time to find that out...

Man good call... I've read the Celtics Game 6 thread 4 times over the last month... It's just as entertaining and just as much good will as any sportswriter wrote after the fact.
"Let me call him," Floyd said.

The man shook his head. "O.J. doesn't give out his cell," he said. "He'll call you."

I don't buy it.

Last years team proved to be the best in the NBA with experience players off the bench.

This years team is looking to live off potential off the bench this year.

He definitely tried to make a bigger splash.  (going after Magetti)

I think the biggest problem was how long it took for the Posey situation to be worked out.  Celtics made a good effort to keep him only to have the Hornets give that extra year at the end.   But the wait killed the Celtics fall back plans.  By then, the other top replacements for Posey were already signed.

I do not like the bench right now for a title hopeful team.  I see three players that can be counted on now, two of them being undersized backups to KG.

The rest, big question marks.

but, the good news is there is a long time between now and the playoffs.  Much can change in that time.  So, we shouldn't worry to much.

I have no problem with low risk/high reward guys.  The issue I have is when you have too many of that "type" on the roster at the same time.  I have to think, though, that one of these guys will emerge this season.

I think as individual players, they are low risk/high reward.

But as a group, they become high risk/low reward.  The Celtics need more then one of them to reward them, and the reward will be a solid bench player.

Well, my opinion hasn't changed.

Ha Ha Nice thread Nick. It's Ironic because I was doing this earlier to one of your threads. I can't remember the title of the thread this second, but it was about poor off-season moves. Best guess "hard to stay positive over off-season moves" was the gist of the title. I was pretty spot on in it, If I do say so myself.

Edit: Didn't notice you already had it up :P
