Danny is looking for bench help:

"What GM Danny Ainge wants is a shooter off the bench, but he’s struggling to find one. League sources say he made a bid for the Orlando Magic’s J.J. Redick recently, a guard he’s long coveted, but an offer of J.R. Giddens and Gabe Pruitt couldn’t come close to prying Redick. What’s more, Orlando isn’t motivated to fortify the Celtics. Suddenly, the Magic believe they can beat Boston. League executives say Ainge has become more persistent this week in searching out deals, but as a Western Conference executive said, “He just doesn’t have any players that anyone wants.”

I dont get why he has been so off recently.

Every one of his 3 pointers are contested heavily. We aren't getting any penetration in the lane to kick it out to him. I think he and Ray are having the same issue. He is also taking mostly heavily contested ones. When they are wide open they knock them down with a great deal of confidence. Then the harder  ones become easier. We need to run a play to get them a wide open three in order to increase their chances of getting hot. Especially House since he is completely a streak shooter.

Interesting attempt by Danny but Pruitt and Giddens clearly is a low ball offer at this point. I know Pruitt is playing more but teams still don't really know his value yet and Giddens is playing well in the D -League but what does that really mean? I am more interested in sticking with House and working on the continued development Pruitt/Giddens. A servicable big off the bench is much more of a need IMO.

Geesh, just what we need! A shorter, less Red version of Scal. What does Danny see in these guys?

Scal
Reddick
Swift
O'Bryant
Luke Jackson
Orien Greene

All guys he fell in love with and all guys that suck.

Just for once in his career could he pull a guy off of another team's roster that turns out to be a heck of a player that isn't or wasn't an already established superstar?

When the heck has Danny ever traded for a player that isn't or wasn't an already established star that turned out to be something really good?

Think about it, other than the guys like KG, Ray Allen, Gary Payton, Antoine and Kenny Anderson who did he ever bring in here that was okay or developing somewhere else who turned into something good here.

You never see him swing a deal like Houston did for Scola or Jersey did for Harris or Phoenix did for Nash or Golden State did with Jackson or Phoenix did for Diaw or Phoenix did for Joe Johnson or New orleans did for Tyson Chandler.

Rondo? I guess but that was more a scouting thing out of college that he recognized some raw talent. That's not what I'm talking about.

This is getting depressing. Atleast he is trying to correct his off-season mistakes.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
this just goes to show that, even though some posters here are enamored with these players and want to trade them for quality, the rest of the nba doesn't agree.

we have 3 great players, 2 decent ones, 3 average ones, and the other 7 are garbage.  you're not going to trade anyone out of the first 2 groups, and the last 2 groups will get you nothing.

live with it...this is our team.  danny fell asleep at the wheel this offseason and the rest of the nba isn't going to do the hated celtics franchise any favors.

maybe true nick, but the deals he did do for KG and Ray more than make up for not making a deal for a diamond in the rough.

plus his quality picks were guys that fit that quality - Rondo, Big AL, Perk, Powe, DWest etc... heck, POR not only didn't like Big Al, they tried ruin his rep with other teams...

First, I would not trade Pruitt straight up for Redick.  When I see Pruitt, I can't help but think of how Billups looked when he was with the Celtics and how good he became.  I even see a little Joe Johnson in Pruitt.  He is smooth like Joe.  Pruitt will not be an all star but he is a great bargain and starting to figure it out.  I would be willing to consider trading him (that is why we have Sam hanging around, to allow for that option) but not for Redick.

Second, don't give up on the "off season" just yet.  Moves can be made until Feb 19 or whatever the exact date is which is 6 weeks.  We don't have a whole lot of trade equity but we will get something.  Maybe Marbury, maybe something else.  People on this blog are savvy enough to know that things were not as good as 27-2 and things are not as bad as 2-7.  There is no off season move that DA or anyone could have made that guarantees a repeat winning the reg season or a title, not signing Posey or any other "what if" you can come up with.  We have all our money tied up in the big three so we are not going to be as deep as other teams.

I predict that we win 4 in a row and then we will have a chance to see where we really stand the week we play Phx, Mia, and Orl.  6 Weeks until the trade deadline!  A lot can happen.  There is no rush here and it is not time to declare the off season a total loss and give up on the season.

Yeah, with bigger mistakes.

yeah, not a huge Reddick fan. but no way ORL is going to make a trade with us at this point that even has the remotest chance of making us better.

but i do think DA is on the right track. we need another shooter on the wing off the bench. that will do a lot to open up the lane for our penetration.

I think the Kapono idea is much better than JJ. first, he's a better shooter. and second, we could play a small ball lineup with him.

we're not going to replace everything that Pose did at this point, but focusing on a shooter would help.

i think it is time to play walker and Giddens so other teams can get a look at them....

We just have to tread water right now.

Develop Gabe at this point and wait for House and Ray to get their shots back.

We'll be fine.

well i partly agree, but some of the problem with their shots is that they aren't getting clean looks and part of the reason for that is the lack of shooting off the bench...

it's a domino effect.
