This is just the type of game where James Posey would've helped. When LeBron started getting hot at the end of the third, Posey would've whacked him a couple of times.

I'm not saying they would've won, but they would lose with dignity intact. Tonight they just got steamrolled.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
i'm convinced our problems go deeper than james posey...

it's called a backup point guard and an imposing big man who can shut down the lane...

Yeah, I don't disagree, I'm just saying having Posey around would put the tiniest seed of doubt in LeBron's oversized head. Just that tiny bit of fear like, "man, this guy will end my career if it means winning a playoff game."

Sorry. I agree with Jick. Posey wouldn't have made a lick of difference. Lebron is officially beyond   being intimidated by some hard fouls. And quite honestly, if that was all it would take Powe could have layed the wood down. Our bench is a mess. Our starters are tired and getting older by the minute. Our PG thinks he is playing on the And One tour lately... We need some serious help.

Tonight the bench was actually not that bad. And Posey couldn't stick with Lebron last year anyway.

We have missed Posey since Christmas Day....

However, that is not nearly the extent of our problems. The main source is lack of scoring from the bench. As of late, it is rare that a bench player has put up a solid scoring effort. Tonight, the high men were Eddie and Powe, each with 8. The big 3 is aging, and no player looks to be ready to add production in the PTS column. Tonight the bench went 9-23 from the field and 2-7 from 3.

Powe has shown signs of a good low post scorer, but he is waaaaaaaay too inconsistant. And, most of his scoring occurs when he is with one or two of the big 3. If he has to lead the second unit he just does not get it done.

Eddie is struggling with his shot and TA has just been Crap. I dont really know what moves could be made to add scoring, but something needs to be done. While idk if Starbury can lead at the point, i know he can score and that is what we need. So, bringing him in may not be too bad after all.... assuming he can get along with the rest of the team (particurally KG)....

"Posey was missed tonight"

tonight ???  he has been badly missed all season.

i'm so [dang] mad at Ainge. this team is all about their 3 year window and a one extra year on Posey's contract was a small price to pay. we aren't going to win a title four years from now anyway.

here's the thing. Posey might not have really slowed down LeBron (although i do think he bothered him more than anybody we had last year), but he would have enabled Paul to not have to guard him the whole game and have some energy for the offensive side of the floor.

we clearly miss Posey, Each element of his game is something that we are lacking on our bench right now.

we miss his shooting. we miss his intensity. and we miss his ability to defend.

i agree that the starters are tired. Paul and Ray didn't rest in the second half until the game was basically over. and the reason for that is we do not have a reliable wing to come off the bench.

i don't think we are going to find a guy that can fully replace Pose, but we need to get someone who excels at at least one of the things he did. personally i would focus on shooting. we have nobody on our bench over 6'3" that can reliably hit a shot and it really hurts.

especially in a game like this where the opposing defense is collapsing on all penetration. the one thing that is open under those circumstances is threes and we missed a ton tonight.

However, that is not nearly the extent of our problems.
The main source is lack of scoring from the bench.

"scoring from the bench" is exactly what Posey contributed along with timely defense and a barrel full of savvy.  House would not be struggling with his shot so much if he was open when he did shoot - and he would be open more if Posey and a stronger bench were on the floor to draw the defense's attention. House is pressing and forcing shots because he is the only real offensive weapon on the second unit as opposed to being the shooter after the second or third pass like last year.

i agree completely. Posey was great for Eddie last year because he got so many more clean looks. when you have a lineup with Eddie, Pose, and either Ray or Paul, opposing defenses cannot guard the entire perimeter.

Pose also was able to pull away opposing PFs when he played in the small ball lineup which opened up the middle more for our big guns.

now opposing bigs can just more easily collapse on Paul and KG when they head into the paint because they don't have to worry about guarding the perimeter.

You're not listening, I'm not saying Posey would've won or lost the game. I'm saying he would've added some back bone to this team.

And yes, even LeBron can be intimidated. Just ask Kobe after Posey nicked his sneakers on that breakaway foul in the Finals last summer.

James Posey is missed every night. He was a talented player that contributed a great deal to the team.

That said, I don't think there's any chance he could intimidate LeBron James.

Posey scored 16 pts off the bench for the Hornets last night.  Certainly could have used his offense.  Look, Posey only scored 7 ppg for us last year, but that doesn't mean that he can only score 7 ppg.  That was his role.... to play defense and knock down the open 3 in limited minutes.  He is a better scorer than 7 ppg.  Posey is good enough to be a starter on most teams....he's certainly better than Bruce Bowen who has been a starter for the former champs for years... that was the quality he brought off the bench.
