I am thinking that there's a strong chance the Captain is gone.

What do you think -- and why?

I don't think that he'll be back. I think that if they intended to re-sign him, they would have already. I don't think that Boras being his agent makes any difference. It probably has more to do with the sub .700 OPS and his age.

Added another reason based on this.

This is a mystery to me. The Red Sox have shown little to no interest in re-signing him, but then again, nobody else has either. It seems to me like the Red Sox would love to receive a 1st round pick in exchange for Tek (which would happen automatically if another team signed him), but that nobody else wants to sign Tek for the simple fact that they don't want to part ways with a 1st round pick for a guy who's projected to hit about .230 next season. In the end, if no one is willing to trade a 1st round pick for Varitek, will he not inevitably re-sign with the Sox at a bargain price?

Let him leave.  100 games out of Josh Bard and 60 out of the two in AAA would be better then Tek's last year.
do it

With every day that passes, I see it as more likely that he comes back.  No team is going to give up the draft picks for him as a type A free agent, and he isn't going to get the money he wants.  At some point, he will come back to the Sox, and they will agree on a reasonable 2 year deal (setting them up to go after Joe Mauer).

Boras miscalculated on this one, perhaps Manny too.  Varitek should have taken the arbitration offer, it seems that would have been more than what he will ultimately get.

If he ended up with the Dodgers for 2 years at $45 million (his best offer to date), I would laugh at how close that is to 2 years at $40 million. Congrats Manny. You may well have forced your way out of Boston and deserted the franchise and fanbase that bent over backwards to accomodate you for an extra $5 million.

there can't be "too much bad blood", half of our team are his clients.

i don't think tek has much choice at this point. Nobody has shown interest in him with what he wants. And as this goes on further he will be unwanted even more by those who showed some interest in the first place.

I think tek could get a 2 year 10-15 million dollar deal somewhere else easily and the only deal i see him signing with boston is for 1 year worth 10 and explore the fa market next year hopefully in better economic times

I bet he makes 2-5 million on a one year contract from the sox, with that being one of the only offers he gets. We will also trade for Saltalamaccia and have V-tek mentor him. That is my prediction.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19
