I don't know if it was ever determined if Cassell had a guaranteed contract or not.  If he doesn't and the Celtics were going to cut him, I think it would be done by today.  See Henry Abbott's comments on the guys getting cut this week:

Quote
Players who are on an NBA roster as of Saturday the tenth get their contracts guaranteed for the rest of the season.

To get a player off your roster, you have to waive him. Clearing waivers takes 48 hours, and that process has to be completed on Friday (otherwise the guy is still on your team on Saturday, and this his contract is guaranteed).

So, to cut a player in time to save some money on his salary, you have to cut him on Wednesday or sooner. Which is why around the League, 12th men without guaranteed contracts are being called into coaches offices.

So the team could save some money if they can get his salary off the books.  If he has a guaranteed contract, then it is guaranteed and they save nothing but cutting him now rather than later.

Just food for thought.

As much as everyone keeps talking about it, I don't think there is anyway it happens.

His 'player' contract is like an insurance policy in case Rondo gets hurt.  If we cut that contract, we lose our insurance and leave ourselves wide open in case RR goes down in the playoffs.  Ask yourself, who would you rather have step in that event late in the ECF, Pruitt or Cassell?

Marbury is out of the question.  Ainge knew full well he'd be available when he signed Sam.  Cassell is the better player anyways...  Starbury always always fails...

As much as I hate to say it, We might be seeing Sam I am back in the rotation after the trade deadline. Remember Eaddie House is one of the few moveable contract the C's have because he has a 2.5 mil expiring deal. If we need to use him in a trade to bring in a solid Big man I think Eddie will probably be involved.

Hopefully if Eddie is moved, Pruitt will get the majority of playing time, but Sam I am is a vet with playoff experience so unless we get Maurbury there is a good chance we could be seeing Sam out on the court again this year.

The alternative, how about we just start playing the guy. Cassell, that is. At least he can get his own shot -- bad shots, but shots nonetheless. Would you rather watch Baby shoot elbow jumpers or Cassell?

I agree.  He never quite got a fair shake last year.  Sure, he fired up too many shots, but that was mostly with a second unit (that we can now see can't create it's own shot) and with not knowing all the plays.  From a talent perspective, he's better than anyone on the team not named KG, Paul, Ray, or Rondo.  With how bad the second team looks and with Rondo's struggles, I say it's worth a try.

I think this team and Sam Cassell are inseparable at this point.

As quite possibly the only one here with a Celtics #28 jersey, say NO to cutting Sam!

Unless we get Starbury and Pruitt learns to play.

how is it you have a goldclub scouting report on gabe's past, future and present skill levels based on a rare 4 minutes a night once a week or so in which he looks pretty solid?

And i know your going to say "well doc doesn't play him when it matters, so clearly he sucks, his solid play comes in garbage time" but that excuse could be used on any of our young players throught doc's tenure, and gabes a 2nd round pick to boot.

Not saying gabe is going to be a great player, just saying im holding off on my rush to judgment one him being a scrub until I have something representing a sample size.

This is my same argument when talking about POB.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Um actually I said Pruitt should have more of TA and House's minutes (given that for whatever reason, the team is obviously not playing Sam).
God bless and good night!

I'm comvinced the C's are going to start playing Cassell.  He's been practicing with the team and is in pretty good shape, yet well-rested at the same time.  He knows our offense, and he's got an alien head.  You can't argue with these cold hard facts.

Not to mention he much better at the "big balls" dance than Iguodala!

I agree.  You could tell that Iguodala hasn't had much practice in that department, and that in his heart he knew it wasn't true.

Yeah, and he had that really intense face. Sam has a big smily face when he does it. I mean it's a fun dance not a mean one.

I don't think having Cassell around really helps... I don't need someone teaching pierce how to hit a hook shot.

haha, yes it is fact that he has an alien head!  I do think it helps to have Sam around.  He helps Rondo out quite a bit.  He's a good mentor, like a motormouth PJ Brown.  Doc has stated that he thinks Sam will be activated toward the end of the season.  I actually prefer Sam to Marbury.  I think he's going to be much more comfortable than last year and I don't think he'll force as many shots.

I'd rather have Marbury, but I do think it will be Cassell.  I just don't think Marbury is going to get bought out so we're stuck with Cassell.

I think Sam is the obvious player to be cut in order for us to add a big man for the stretch run. He would just come back as a coach, whether he retires, is cut or traded...

The way Pruitt has been playing lately, I would not cut Cassell. In fact, I would start to play him. I have more confidence in him than Pruitt as our backup PG at this time.
