In that article about KG getting up in O'Bryant's grill in practice, we've been so focused on that part of it that one major thing went completely untalked about:

Garnett did everything from explain how a first step taken in a certain way will work… to getting up in O’Bryant’s face to “explain” things. Afterwards, KG explained that he’s sick and his leg hurts… but he’s there… in practice… and making sure guys like POB get the lessons he got when he was a young baller.

I’m sure this will be a focus of some media reports tomorrow… because these guys did nothing to hide what was going on. It was so nuts, that the people who were watching, were watching in awe.

what i'm wondering is, what is the severity of whatever physical ailment is going on with KG? he's still great, but he clearly isn't the same player that he was last year...something is missing, and he just looks beat up and worn out. problems with big men's legs are not something to overlook or take lightly...especially when that big man is one of your most invaluable players. i guess if the celtics wanna play with their cards close to their chest when it comes to injuries (see patriots), then i can respect that. however, if it's anything serious, i wish they'd just give the guy a couple of pointless games off...like last night's game against the wizards and such.

Yeah, that is being overlooked, generally because every single starter is playing though nagging pain and minor injuries right now...and yes another thing that is being overlooked is the fact that KG is starting to decline, its inevitable

KG is starting to decline? What is this based on? Did you see last nite's game of a declining KG getting back on defense on a 2 on 1, blocking the first guys shot and then the rebounder's shot (which was rightfully called goal tending). And he didn't seem out of breath either. Do you see him taking it more and harder to the basket?

Everyone is always tired or a little hurt. Pierce ices his knees in the 4th quarter... ray, his ankles. No great nba player is 100% healthy really at any time. The night kobe scored 81, in the interviews he states that he felt awful coming in that afternoon, his whole body was sore and his knees hurt.

Completely overlooked because it's a non-issue.  The flu is going around.  And KG didn't say he was injured.  No one has said that.  He said his leg hurt.  After a practice, a leg, arm, head, mouth, ear, toenail, or whatever can 'hurt'.

Denial? if you dont think KG is decling I cant help you, how many years in the league? 13-14? show me 1 player in NBA history whos numbers and overall play didnt start declining after that many years in the league

I would agree Pierce is a little iffy, and i've been wondering how his knees are doing. His shots have no lift to them, but I can't tell if thats how they ALWAYS were or if its new. He was near perfect in the wiz game, so I guess we just need to sit back and watch how things play out the next few games.

Maybe that is why Rondo and Perkins are both carrying a larger load this year and the Celtics are better at least 1 thru 5.

I think we can get another two seasons out of GPA, thank you very much.

yup is simple grades stuff 1 to 10

Allen       9         9.5
Pierce      9.5       8.0        
KG          9.8       8.5
Perk        6         7

Celtics     40.3      41.0

Sadly last years bench is still years ahead this one
and those 1.7 points just got evaporated when u involved
bench.

i thought the same thing when i read that article...everybody was remarking about how little POB is showing and i read it and only thought "KGs leg hurts???"

just wishfully chalking it up to soreness from previous injuries as other have already pointed out, but i still don't like that to hear that it is hurting...

as for POB, i was always looking at him as a project, so his lack of impact this year isn't much of a disappointment to me.

KG has been declining since 2004! I'll take a 2003-2005 KG over a 2007-2008 KG anyday

I don't know if that many people would really argue that (OK, maybe a few...).  But the 2007-2008 KG is still a top 5-10 player in the league, and arguably the best defensive player in the league.  KG is not where he was in his absolute prime, but he also has not declined significantly yet.

I don't think we are seeing a declining KG but a more diversified player than 2004 or in his younger days.In his younger days you may see a guy playing more for the scoring like most younger players are tempted to do.KG understands the needs of a team are not always scoring a lot of points first but defense is usually what wins games.

Ray Allen is one. He's actually better now than he was earlier on. I might agree that players decline physically with age and heal slower if injured. But the good players, if they decline athletically, make up for it with their intelligence. Bill Russell is another. He won a championship in his last year. If you're looking at #'s, I think you're looking in the wrong place. KG's, PP's, Ray's numbers have gone down, but that is due to the team they are now playing on. Also, I don't think Ray's free throw % has gone down. Also, let's say I agree that KG is "declining". I'd take a "declining" player who was critical in helping his team win a championship over a 20-20 guy any day.

Um, KG has always been a diversified player, I dont know what you're talking about, He didnt come to the celtics and all of a sudden become an all-around player...thats always been him...and whether you want to admit it or not, he doesnt do anything as well as he used to, rebound, defend, score, pass...he's declining, and its amazing he hasnt declined even more, so props to him for still being a great player, just not quite the player he use to be.
How is a 16/8/2 guy more diversified than a 24/13/5
 the 2 assists is telling, why has his passing regressed on a better team??, this is a guy that peaked at 6 assists a game at the PF spot on bad teams... Part of it has to do with not having to double team him anymore, which could not have been said for KG in his prime...KG does not need to be doubled teamed anymore, half the time he cant even take advantage of lesser players guarding him straight up, and you people are telling me hasnt declined?
