O'Bryant has some scoring skills and can block shots. I would like to see him work harder and earn some more PT in the 2nd half of the season and possibly displace BBD from the lineup. I don't know, I am not so high on BBD - he is too short to be a true center and too slow to be a true power forward. So I might be shopping Glen Davis this February if I got paid to be Celtics GM.

Now for signing up Mutombo, I would be careful since he has been in this league forever, it seems. I just don't think he has much left. It would be like that Artis Gilmore signing back in 1990.

Have you watched Mutombo playing last year? He was very good, starting for Houston when Yao was injured.

And have you watched O'Bryant playing this year? He's not a NBA player right now.

I really think this is a first come first serve situation. We have the need, we can't afford not to fill it (in my mind)

If Mutumbo is ready to go, I say we go.

My thoughts exactly, IP.  If there were a guarantee about PJ, maybe it might be a dilemma.  But since there isn't, I'll take Deke without a second thought if he's willing.

Yeah, that's my reasoning as well.

Deke would help us more than he'd help the Spurs, I think. They already have Oberto, Kurt Thomas, Tolliver and Mahinmi as backup bigs.

As for who to cut: I think that the only reason POB may stay is if his next season contract is guaranteed.

Steve Francis traded to Memphis (BREAKING)
Posted on: December 24, 2008 1:05 pm

Steve Francis will wind up with the Grizzlies, after all. Not the Vancouver Grizzlies -- the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Houston Rockets announced Wednesday they've dealt the injured former superstar to Memphis along with a 2009 second-round pick and cash. The Rockets get a conditional 2011 second-round pick.

This means Deke is going back to Houston.

I don't think its a slam-dunk that they cleared that money for Deke.  As much as they could use a backup Center, they have an even bigger need at the point.  I have a sneaking suspicion Marbury might be looking for a new home in Texas.

Why wouldn't they cut Cassell, or move him to the coaching staff? He's played 0 minutes this season.

Every other player on the roster has more value than Sam. Cutting or trading an unproven rookie or a project like POB to open up a roster spot for a Mutombo rental seems excessive. (Shades of Bagwell for Andersen.)

If it's determined that Cassell is absolutely needed for the stretch drive, he could always be resigned later on this season, after we've had time to evaluate the current roster a bit more and made a move to open up a spot.

One old coach's opinion, but I don't deactivate a guard to bring in a 5 when I've got a badly underperforming 5 who can't take time from two smaller 4s.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

i can actually see him signing with the spurs because its closer to his home and the climate is basically the same.

if he does come here, based on how pruitt is playing, sam will be a full time coach.

Become Legendary.

That's what it looks like to me too, Cordobes.  Hopefully we can talk PJ into coming back (but doubtful).

Marbury? He hasn't been bought out yet, has he? Anyway, I really don't see Morey offering Marbury a contract.

Mutumbo would be a great addition but I think we need someone younger who can play more minutes. We need to look into a package of Davis, Giddens, and either pruitt or a first for a defensive minded big man and an athletic three to defend the wing. Posey wasnt a god, but his defense is greatly missed and could be filled.

Won't it be awesome if we can snatch marbury & mutombo. Oh! if we can only redo POB signing & sign Bird-Man instead. Bird-Man doing his thing in Denver.
