Through the years i have witnessed the NBA's caliber of players go from one level to another. The 70's 80's were probably the best years of progression as far as the quality of players, officiating and the revamping of some old rules. The nineties took a slow down in progression of great players entering the NBA(imo). Now we are in the 2000's and being asked a lot to compare players from one decade to the other.I find it hard to gauge what player now would be better than any superstar from the 70's,80's.When im asked the question to compare two players from different decades, the first question i ask myself, where would the player today stack up in the NBA as a player from that past dacade.Sometimes i can't see them being as successful playing aganist some of the players i witness in those decades past.I dont want to be unfair to any player but i find it  really hard to compare players today with players of yesterday.Maybe im being bias in my thinking but i do not see a better brand of basketball being played in the NBA as i did in the 70's,80's.

Defense in general is far superior nowadays.  I think a greater percentage of players were good shooter in the 70's and 80's.

I was born in the 90's, growing up with heros like Shaq and Jordan.  However, I never lost sight of where these players got their inspiration from.  I feel that without the glory days in the 70's and 80's, the players of today would have never been molded into who they are today.  Players like Bird, Magic, and Kareem influenced the players who we watch and idolize today.
