I'd thought for a long time that Boston actually won the series, but then I saw this video:

http://www.nba.com/hawks/Atlanta_vs_Boston.html

It is blatantly obvious that the celtics must have lost that series. They never actually say it, but the words are written all over Paul Pierce's face.

Haha.  "Rivalry renewed?"  When were the Hawks and Celtics ever rivals?  Maybe Bird and Dominique (perhaps in Dominique's mind), but not the Hawks and the Celts.

i hear what u are saying and it is laughable from our perscpective.....

but look at it from the hawks business point of view.  this is a ploy to generate both revenue and interest.  going into the season, this is the game they had circled on their calendar, in terms of generating interest and money.

hell, they have ludacris performing at halftime to help people buy tickets.

nothing will be better than killing them tonight.  if we lose, it will be more of the same "hype"

Oh I totally get that I just thought the video was funny from where Im sitting.

Funniest things in that video, in no particular order:

1) The ironic factor-they define the word rivalry, then they quote Kevin Garnett saying "I wouldn't call it a rivalry". Then they show footage from a first round playoff series they lost, then proclaim rivalry renewed.

2) The funny faces- weird thing Doc Rivers does, then really sad faces from Pierce, Allen and the old guy in the stands

3) The thought that every single team will start doing this. The Bobcats now have a rivalry with us because we lost once to them last season and won the first game on a last second buzzer beater

The Hawks has to win a series to make it any kind of rivalry...maybe we will get the "Cool Kids"to play at halftime.  :)

Well it doesn't seem like the marketing ploy is working too well.  I was able to go on Ticketmaster and buy an entire row of tickets to the game.

the old guy in the stands wearing the celts shirt was funny.  i also found it humorous that there were no highlights from games played in boston, lol

I have to say the Celtics definitely respect this Atlanta team.  By the way you see Pierce, Perkins and Allen talking about the game, you know they won't be caught sleeping.  They are ready to take a tough and physical opponent.

However, that's as far as it'll go.  Rivalry?  I don't think so.  There needs to be more than a playoff series to be a rivalry.  Real recent Celtics rivalry that I can think of are only Nets and Indiana in the first half of 2000 when the Celtics were playing them in the playoffs.  I don't even consider Detroit a rivalry last year.  Just two great teams going at it.

  • TRANSFORMATION INTO CHAMPION COMPLETE!!!
Nothing would be better than to go in there and blow them out, and completely disregard them. Closest thing to a rivalry is with the Cavs, and that's not really a biiter one at all, their just the two best teams. The Hawks are like a middle of the road Boxer calling out the champ, he knows he can't beat him, but if he calls him out he at least gets the chance to be on the big stage. The boxer analogy concludes with the contender getting knocked out, early.

reminded me of that family guy where stewie and brian go to germany and read the pamplet of all the great things germany has done.

Brain: "uh excuse me, there's no mention of anything from 1939 to 1945."

Guide: "nothing happened, everyone was on vacation"

Brain: "no, germany invaded pola.."

Guide: silence! i will here no more slander against the german people!
