This isn't a joke, lets bring back antoine who is a true celtic and loves playing for the c's and understands the aura and prestige of playing for this team. antoine put his heart and soul into the game every night on the floor regardless of results. even when the c's were winning 35 games a year, he tried hard every game and never sat out, playing thru numerous injuries.  many people on these boards have said that they wouldnt be willing to bring back antoine at his current salary but if the c's could pay him the vet min, they would be willing to bring him back as locker room presence and 10-12th man off the bench.  well now that time has come and the c's could sign him for the minimum and antoine wouldnt be out on the court chucking up bad shots because the big 3 wouldnt stand for it, so antoine would cooperate and play like 15 minutes a game and be a composed backup veteran forward which the c's could use and win a championship with boston which he always wanted to accomplish.  idk who would be opposed to this as there are 3 players on the roster(POB-giddens-glen davis/scal) who all perform worse than antoine would, plus you throw in the celtic pride factor that walker brings, i think he is an ideal man at the end of the bench and im sure pierce would be thrilled having his best buddy back especially since the teams ultimate success is not vital to antoine playing at his best. what does everyone think? i think this is do-able and should be done. GO CELTICS!

Hard to imagine Antoine wouldn't be a disruption playing behind Powe and Davis.  He's a more talented player, even at this stage of his career than either one of them.

He's just not a fit for a defensive oriented team.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Former Celtic forward Antoine Walker said he expects to be bought out of his contract by today by the Memphis Grizzlies. The Celtics are seeking a veteran forward, but NBA sources said Walker will not be considered to be re-signed.

I like Antoine, and wouldn't mind him on the bench as a towel waver, but I don't think he's an option.  In terms of this team, I'd much rather have Dikembe.

is the OP toine himself, as it is his first post ;)

the toine days are over and its for the best.  i appreciate his days in green, even though i was never a big fan.  he is not a good fit for our current team.

give me mutumbo or pj over toine any day of the week and twice on sunday

  • Yup

i'm shocked that name wasn't taken

the only compelling reasons i can see for bringing back toine for a 3rd run in green are

1) sentimentailty
2) putting an end to bringing back toine threads

neither really a good enough reason to actually bringing back toine
Yup

How is Toine more talented than Powe and Davis at this point in his career? lol, if that was the case I'm sure we'd show more interest and he'd be playing for memphis

I'm not gonna lie, once I hear that he was being bought out, I thought how amazing that would be, Paul and toine together again

How about we bring him in as a coach/player role like Sam Cassel. So we can keep him on our roster as a coach and then worry about things later.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I would love to have him back, think about it it will be like the old times again except in winning ways. Pierce and Toine will have their seond rings but first rings together as Celtics.

The Gerald-Toine comparison isn't fair at all.  For those that lived through the most prolonged dry spell in this franchise's history, 'Toine stands retrospectively as a symbol of both the lows and highs during that run.  Say what you will about a lot of the facets of his game, but this is a guy who wore his heart on his sleeve, gave everything he had every night and absolutely loved being a Celtic.

I've been musing about 'Toine lately and might put together some more extended thoughts on him over the next couple of days - but long story short is, it's a disservice to what 'Toine meant here as a player and co-captain to lump him in with GG's unrealized potential.  I understand the comparison you're drawing is about the "bring him back" threads, but the distinction still seems worth clarifying to me.

Everyone says, "oh why don't we just bring back gerald green too". thats so ridiculous. Gerald Green is a mediocre basketball player who COULD develop into a good player. Antoine was a captain of this team and averaged 20-10 for many of them, he's a former all-star, and a former NBA champion. So i would love to see him come back and play a small role. But if its either him or Motombo i'd regretfully have to go with motombo becuase the backup C spot IS the glaring weakness on this team (the only weakness mind you)
