Actually, Tony can replace Posey's defensive abilities, adding a more agressive style in driving to the basket. What Tony hasn't really developped is a 3pt shot liability, and Antoine could give that to us if we signed him. Having Toine and Tony on the floor at the same time somehow could make Posey's work, a more athletic style in Tony, an outside threat and some playmaker help from Walker to add to the talents of the second unit.

I think we should sign him; only because we would have two Allens and two Walkers.
And even better, we would have Walker A and Walker B.

By the way, if he was waived on Thursday afternoon...has he cleared waivers already? Any news on him?

Geesh, PSquared, one guy says some colorful anti-Toine stuff and that's hatred?

You take exception with the criticism of Toine being worthy of a max contract and yet criticize the very same management that you say accurately evaluated Walker as a max contract player. If they weren't a "REAL" front office that "THAT HAD AN IQ HIGHER THAN A JELLYBEAN" then they must have made tons of mistakes by hiring bad coaches, getting bad veterans and as an extension of your opinion, stupidly and mistakenly signed players who weren't max contract quality type players to max contracts. The Celtics gave him that max contract but it was fairly obvious that Antoine was way more valuable to the Celtics than any other team in the league and if thy had played hardball with Antoine, probably would have found out that there wasn't a max contract market out there for his services at the time.

As for a couple of your other points, Cassell is coaching this team. That is his contribution to the 2008-09 Celtics. He is on the roster because the Celtics thought it financially prudent to have the league pay half his salary to coach the team by technically making him a roster player that is never activated. I think that's pretty clever and think Cassell and Doc have a lot to do with Rondo's coming out party this year.

I'm not going to go back and look up every guy who retired before the age of 32 but there are tons of guys who lost it or just weren't good enough to play beyond the age of 32. As one example of a former All-Star who's skilled declined so rapidly he was done at 32 how's Derrick Coleman? It happens a lot more than you might think.

Toine can be useful off our bench, probably more consistent than TA, definitely better than Powe, Baby, and Scal.

Antione has gotten little burn over the past two years so he is not in game shape. He has to learn the new Boston way and I worry a little about whether he can adapt. He can be useful if he rebounds, passes the ball to teammates, and plays defense. I like his passion for the game and he will always have his place in Celtics history for leading them out of the dark ages. He did well for Miami in their championship season so he can use the lessons learned there and apply them here.

Lets sign him up for the veteran minimum.

I think there's enough in the bank to bring back PJ Brown and 'Toine, but at vet's minimum.

All and all, at <10 min, as a point forward, he can be effective at spreading the floor. The key is to not have him attempt to take it inside; he can't really mix up it down there. And that's really his main liability, if he got extended minutes, however, in a limited manner, he's ok.

the guy at the deli just told me we are going to sign Rik Smits out of retirement at the veterans minimum.
God bless and good night!

Rik Smits has two broken feet.

Walker might be out of shape, but that has never stopped him from being a productive player.

We aren't even asking any of our bench players to be productive "starters", we just want positive contributions to sustain an "even" quota.

If our bench is a net negative when matched up with the other team's bench than our starters have to work a little bit harder to recover.

Well.....I certainly think it is.  But hey...it's only my own [dang]ed opinion, you know.

I was referring to the management BACK THEN(PRE-Danny Ainge and Grousbeck&Co.) with ThanksDad and Chris "I need another Twinkie" Wallace.  I definitely believe Toine could've and should've been developed better than he was(obviously!) while in Beantown if it wasn't for Incompetent Management/Coaching all around....But that's just my opinion.

You may be right about that but at the time, I'm pretty sure he would've found a good number of Teams willing to take him off the C's hands; just not at the "Max" price, of course but something a bit less.   It really all came down to the Financial-aspect of it all....as it always does in Sports(*cough*Manny*cough*).

And what is Doc doing?  Twiddling his thumbs?  Reading a book? Drinking a bud?  Give me a break!  Sam is just sitting on his azz on the bench doing what he's been doing for a while now : NOTHING!  If that's what's called "Coaching", then sign him up 'cause I can certainly do "NOTHING" better than Sam.

He is on the roster because the Celtics thought it financially prudent to have the league pay half his salary to coach the team by technically making him a roster player that is never activated.

Keep it up.  If you continue to believe that garbage, then perhaps you'll find someone who believes it, too.   Sam is nothing but WASTED....ROSTER....SPACE, PERIOD.  He's just along for the ride to get a ring(another one) while letting others do the "heavy lifting", so to speak.

I think that's pretty clever and think Cassell and Doc have a lot to do with Rondo's coming out party this year.

Don't know about "clever" but I do know it's very sneaky of Sam to Pretend to come over to the C's saying all the right things and then ending up doing NOTHING to back up whatever he said he was going to do.   I'm sure he can tell a very mean Joke on the Bench but that's all just wasted Money tossed away(OUR wasted money that we PAY TICKETS for), all in all.

I'm not going to go back and look up every guy who retired before the age of 32 but there are tons of guys who lost it or just weren't good enough to play beyond the age of 32.

Okay...Maybe I was too broad in that.  I'd narrow it from the 90's(Jordan Era) to now.  Perhaps there were players BACK IN THE DAY who wouldn't have it after 32.  Problem is, it was a different Era and the types of medical treatments and technology didn't exist then that exist now which allow players to extend their playing days.

But again, that's just an assumption.....and my own [dang]ed opinion, naturally.

Good one.   :-\

Is there another?   You *did* say it happens a lot more than I think.....DC is one.  Anyone else?   Just curious....

Too bad, too.  He used to shoot the F out of the ball.   He was a very good Mid-range shooter.   Only problem was....that's the only thing he knew how to do.

[dang].

Okay.....So we've got Stevie Loser, Little Dog, and Dunce Coleman.    *whew!*

I'm getting P@WNED here.....   :o

 Bleh. :P

Okay...okay.  I get your points...everyone.  So it isn't out of the realm of possibility of not having anything left at 32.   Still, though....My belief remains that Antoine still has some game left in him.

Roy(I think it was Roy) said that with Walker not getting any burn the past few seasons, he would not be in b-ball shape which is not true 'cause he has been continously working out in memphis and taking part in their practices and scrimmages; yes, I know that's not the same as playing real-time B-Ball but he's really not that far off from being in total b-ball shape, actually.

The way people make it sound is as if Toine is Oliver Miller Pt.2 or something.   I swear ever since that infamous 2003 season where he blew up like a Blimp, that "fat/out of shape" issue has stuck with him ever since.  It's real annoying, actually....
