I cheated and looked it up. I won't answer it, but I'll give a hint that probably won't help. Wiki lists two writers collaborating, but I only recognized one of the names. He had a cameo on Seinfeld once, if I remember correctly.

That's who I am thinking of.....I never knew about the Seinfeld appearance, but he used to be on Night Court all the time too.

I swear to God I did not look it up, but based on the Night Court line I am going to guess Mel Torme.

Yeah, it's the Velvet Fog, Mr. Mel Torme, which also happens to be the best nickname ever.
