I don't know what made me think of it, but during tonights game I started trying to think of a big time free agent that had signed with Boston and I couldn't really come up with any.  Most of the Celtic greats have either been drafted or traded for (or predated free agency).

The best I could come up with was Dominique.

Think about it.  Who else?

Posey?
Yup

Don Nelson was signed by the Celtics after three years with other teams. He did fairly well and was essentially a free agent.

Toine!

.... The Second Time  ;D

Trade.  Though there's always hope for a 3rd time ::)

But I guess Gary Payton could be considered.

edit: ahhh, I see you had the same train of thought  ;)

See what I'm saying.  Most of the Celtucs FA signings can be defined by how big of a burden their contract was...Pervis for instance or Vin Baler...Ugggh, Vin Baler - he was a free agent signing wasn't he?  We didn't give anything up for him did we?
Yup

For sheer impact, it would have to be Don Nelson or James Posey, right?

Im on the Don Nelson wagon'

Well, first, I don't know who this crazy "Vin Baler" character is that you're talking about. Sounds like a hell of a player though ;-)

Joking aside, Baker came here via a trade:
Quote
After four years in Seattle, Baker was traded to the Boston Celtics with Shammond Williams for Kenny Anderson, Vitaly Potapenko and Joseph Forte.

Baler :)

OK, if I did it once I'd call it a typo...But twice, I'm going
to have to blame it on still having some sleep in my eyes.  That and the fact that I couldn't remember that components of that trade.

I'm awake now.  TP for the spellcheck and the trade info.

Joe Forte was a hell of a pick ::)
Yup

My top 5:

1. Nelson
2. Posey
3. Dominique Wilkens
4. Payton (he was traded from the Celtics for Toine, released and signed as an FA)
5. Eddie House?

This is a thin list
