Key Matchups
vs
Paul Pierce vs Caron Butler
vs
Kevin Garnett vs Antawn Jamison
Even though the Wizards are at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, it isn't the fault of Butler or Jamison.  Both have been playing very well and  they are currently 1st in the league in combined starting forward scoring.  Both of these matchups should be very good and Pierce and KG will need to work on the defensive end.

Honorable Mention
Rajon Rondo vs Dee Brown
Brown was signed as a 3rd string point guard but because of injuries he got the chance to start.  Rondo should be able to dominate this matchup.

Game Notes
The Wizards are 2-8 at home and 1-12 against Eastern conference foes.  They have lost 3 in a row while the Celtics are going for their 13th straight win.

Last season, the Wizards won the series 2 games to 1.  The Celtics won one in Boston while the Wizards won one at home and a second game in Boston.

Team Connections
Caron Butler and Ray Allen are former UConn Huskies
Nick Young and Gabe Pruitt were teammates at USC
DeShawn Stevenson played for Doc in Orlando
Darius Songalia was drafted by the Celtics with the 50th pick in 2002
Antonio Daniels and Ray Allen were teammates in Seattle
Brian Scalabrine played for Eddie Jordan in NJ while Jordan was an assistant there.
Tom Thibodeau was set to join the Wizards last season as an assistant but left the club after his first practice with them.

X-Factor
Trap Game
The Wizards are last in the Eastern Conference with a 3-15 record but yet they have the highest scoring forward duo in the league.  This team gave the Celtics problems last season and if the Celtics take them for granted and look past them to the Hornets game, the Wizards may be able to pull off an upset.

hey hey now, they were one FG away from taking out the Lakers last week, and other than that opening night blowout last year, we had problems with this team last year.

They have gotten better over the last few weeks... we had problems with the Wizards last season, even though they had more of their guys healthy.A.Jamison is a handful usually, because he has as consistent 17-18'jumper as KG(imo)... C.Butler plays well aganist us too.It might not be an easy night.

I'm guessing the starting line-up just changed considerably with the trade that just went down.

I'm not sure what this means for the Wizards tomorrow night - I'm assuming the new guys will play.  Otherwise it will be a very short bench for them.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
One game that's taking way too long to get here.

I'm hoping Rondo bounces back after the stinker he just had. If he brings it the Celtics should blow the doors off the Wiz. Giggle, Giggle, Giggle to Arenas on the bench and his 3-15 Wiz.

TP to FLC as always.

Excuse my ignorance but... then... do the Wizards even still have a point guard they can play?

Valid Question... If they have waived Dee Brown and Crittenton isnt on the team yet, I can hardly see anyone. Nick Young?

Thanks again FL for the game thread!

Wizards may be the best 3-15 in the history of the NBA. Seems like they are always in basketball games. If the Celtics come out flat and play sloppy, they stand a good chance of losing this game.

These kind of games make me nervous.

If they've waived Brown, does that mean Juan Dixon starts at the point?

Thing is alot of bad teams are competitive. The difference is good teams know how to close a game out.

This game better not come down to the wire. The Celtics need to bring their A game tonight. The Wizards have the confidence that they can beat us. If we get off to a slow start we might not be able to crawl ourselves back into the game. We'll have no crowd support in DC so I think it's crucial for us to start off well.
