For years, mine was Dallas -- I love Dirk, and I loved their style of play under Avery. I always played as them in video games, because of backcourt speed (Harris, Terry, and Mo Ager was inexplicably awesome in 2K8), alternating bigs who could just get boards, and scoring from Dirk and a little of everything from Howard.

Since the Kidd trade, I got disgusted with them, because I can't stand Kidd.

Now I find myself drawn to the Nets. I still love Devin Harris (and Mo), plus Yi is really intriguing to me. Now they've added this Anderson kid from Cal, who looks like a player, and CDR. Vince is detestable, but he'll be dealt either this year or next.

Outside of players, they've got a fun roster to think about, plenty of cap space/future thinking to allow for all kinds of trade speculation. Throw in the Brooklyn/Jay-Z aspect, and I just really enjoy them, almost as a concept.

Anyway, who do you find yourself rooting for when the Celts aren't on?

1) I've always rooted for Portland starting with the teams of the early 90s with Clyde, Terry Porter, Ducksworth, Cliff Robinson and Jerome Kersey. Too bad Detroit and Chicago destoyed any chance of the team winning a championship. People forget about them because they didn't win. I'll admit I stopped rooting for them during their Jailblazer days. Now, they are back. I just don't hope they beat the Celtics. I think it will take them a few more years to solidify.

2) The Jazz. How could you not? Especially if you like point guards and power forwards.

3) The Magic during the first few years of the Shaq era. The Celtics lost their magic (ho-ho) by then. I needed a team to root for. Shaq was actually lovable then. Then he fled to LA...

4) Timberwolves. The Celtics of the upper mid-west.

Agree on Portland. Now that I live in northern Mississippi, Memphis has become my Western Conference team. They can score and they're fun to watch. I think the younger Gasol makes the deal last year a little less absurd for Memphis, the dude can play. I am worried about the Outlaw trade though. I'm just not sure where he fits, He's not particularly good at the 4, Rudy is better at SF and Mayo is at the 2. I guess he could become a Marion type 4 for Ivaroni.

Good topic... This one's tough because as a coach there's teams I like for stylistic reasons, and as a fan there are teams that are simply fun to watch.

As a coach, I like San Antonio and the old style the Pistons used to play. In Detroit's title year, I respected the quality of their defense, and their organized team oriented offense. Ditto for San Antonio.

That being said, fan-wise I find their play somewhat dull compared with other teams that are flashy and fun, but that I would never preach to a team. For example, middle school point guards aren't going to run an alley-oop based offense, but the Hornets are just a fun team to watch.

I also like the Bizarro Celtics in Minnesota, not because they are good but because I feel like I personally invested in Al Jefferson and Ryan Gomes and want to see them succeed. Jefferson in particular I feel like I watched him improve so much while he was here, I always want him to do well. I also won't turn off a Portland game, because Pritchard is a genius and has a good young roster assembled out there unfortunately in 10:30 tip off land.
"Let me call him," Floyd said.

The man shook his head. "O.J. doesn't give out his cell," he said. "He'll call you."

Spurs are my favorite non-Celtic team. I hate the Lakers and they were the one of the teams that was competing with them in the WC during the Shaq/Kobe days. Plus I've always loved Tim Duncan's game. Even when we didn't get him :(.

I also liked the Chris Webber Kings. I felt they got a raw deal first by the refs against the Lakers, then again when Chris Webber blew his knee out. I really think they would have won the title that year if he was healthy.

Hated the Kings. I still had a soft spot for Shaq from his Orlando days (see previous post) and kinda liked the young Kobe, so I couldn't stand the Kings.

1. Anyone playing the Lakers

I don't so much follow specific teams as I follow different players.  I like watching young guys develop, so Portland is a good team to watch, as is GSW and Minny.  I also have a thing for ex-Celtics, so I like watching Minny (Big Al) and Cleveland (DWest).
Celtics fan for life.

Blasphemy!

I hate the players and the team, but I always watch them to see what level they are playing at, and if they are a real threat, I hope they win the West though so it's Celts vs Lakers. Apologies for the forbidden "L" word  :(.

TP for the save! If I don't watch the Celtics it is usually the Cavs or Lakers this year, those seem to be the only threats to the Celtics so far.
