Some scores from this past weekend:

51-29
45-28
37-29
54-31
48-28

Is this just a fluke?  Have the rules become so favorable for QB's and against teams secondaries that crazy passing offenses abound?  Drew Brees is on pace to break Dan Marino's passing yardage record.

Was this past weekend just an aberration?  Am I just slap happy from seeing Matt Cassel throw for 400+ yeards two straight weeks?
Yup

This weekend was the highest scoring weekend in NFL history I believe.  So I'm guessing just a fluke.

The game is so geared towards the offense these days.  Both the QB and WR are generously protected by the rules and, conversely, defenses are now hampered by it.  IMO, this leads to some huge advantages for the offense.  Put it this way, teams like the Steel Curtain or the '85 Bears would have a tough time in today's NFL due to the rule changes.

This past weekend was a bit extreme but its still an offensive game now.

yep, offense is sexy on highlights, defense isn't.

With the protections afforded WR's and QB's, as don said, it's tough to play physical defense now.

I mean, snap shot, the slant to the inside is now the most overused pattern ever against man coverage because of the new illegal contact rules. Its almost a free 8-10 yard gain if the CB isn't jamming. by the time he reads slant, your already out of the stupid 5 yard box where contact is allowed, so he can't do anything except take a penelty or try to play off to minimize the damage.

Its stupid.
