Rondo played great, I love it when he attacks, but you guys must have seen that Iverson didn't even try to stop his penetration.

so?

This was the knock on rondo all last year when he played well sometimes too "Oh, he did great, but it was because the other guy wasen't trying."

you have to smoke the bad defensive players too.

no one goes "of course Youk hit 2 dingers today, the other pitcher sucked, not impressive."

Rondo wasn't forced to give the ball up on 80% of our possessions. They actually set him picks and let him run the offense. It was refreshing. What I'm hoping is that Doc realizes that we can do this with the kid against anyone, not just the Pistons. Set him picks, and free him up. It allows him to put his speed, handle and court vision to its best use.

Personally, I was also happy that what happened in the Knicks game is carried over to this last one - feeding Rondo on cuts to the basket. Pop has done that with Parkert for years. When you have bigs who can pass, they can get a guy like Parker or Rondo a lot of easy layups in the halfcourt.

i think the OP got a little carried away...it's easy to forget how great some of those historical teams were.

sorry, but pierce couldn't hold jordan's jock...pippen was an amazing second-fiddle player, and rodman could rebound and play defense like nothing ever seen for some time.

but when i read on these forums how some were trying to make nowitzki out to be better than bird, or even asking if bird would be an all-star today i can presume those posters had never even seen bird play (or only saw the older / broken down version of him)... :-\

agreed...Jordan's Bulls cant be and wont be touched, basically because there is no other Jordan.

As for Cedric, my buddy coaches with a guy thats good friends with him and was with him the night before he first stated his Dirk over Bird theory.  He said he was going to say it just because he knew it would get a crazy reaction, which it did.  I like Max, but he definitely just tried to get a buzz some times

Like the time he said that as soon as KG became a Celtic he became the best forward in team history.

This team plays well when Rondo and Perkins are playing well. That's why I laugh when I see statements like, "we won the championship last year despite Rondo." What's debatable is whether a good showing from Rondo is an indication that the Celtics are going to win, or a direct cause. Obviously, quality play is going to "cause" victories, but the question that I'm asking, in other words, is how important is Rondo to this team? I think he's essential. The Cs have shown that they can win games without him, but that's because they're such a deep team. They have enough options to gut out a win when not everyone's play is up to par. When the Celtics win like they did last night, it's because Rondo is playing aggresively.

An aggresive Rondo is a top notch point guard in the league (chris paul is in his own league with all time greats)
I feel our offensive scheme of dribble it over 1/2 then give it up to ray or paul is good for eddie because he can hit the outside j's.
Rondo does have to improve on this to really be great, he does however do so many things as a player that I think its only a matter of time.  AND this is one of the best defensive pgs I've seen in a long time.
Bulls vs todays C's....
Rodman can't guard pierce, pippen would be picking him up, advantage C's.
Longley or whatever center you pick, advantage C's perk
pf-big tip to C's, huge
sg-love ray but big tip to Bulls
pg-was steve kerr the starter? if so Rondo has it
bench C's
in theory this team is better but MJ was a very special player, like Bird and magic
I'd be betting on celtics though!

Jordan's Bulls were all great, but I sincerely believe there is one of em we can beat, perhaps the 98 Bulls were the one that is most vulnerable to our 08 Celtics, simply because MJ is older and the Jazz led by Karl and stockton were good, but I don't think those Jazz team would beat our 08 team, even perhaps our present squad is better than that 98 Jazz team, so hypothetically, we can beat the last of the Jordan Bulls team....but we would be beaten badly by the 96 Bulls squad, even the 93 Bulls team would crush us hands down if they square up now.

The C's last year were fairly close to the Bulls - 66 wins and a 10.6 differential. That's one of the better teams in NBA history..

Of course Pippin would guard PP. Pippen was the SF. Rodman was the PF. Rodman would guard KG and drive him crazier than he already is.

Don't forget, Pippen was included as one the NBA's 50 best, and that is largely due to his defense.

It is also misguided to do a position by position breakdown on a team that has Michael Jordan.

if rondo is being aggresive and we're feeding the beast early (stated in an earlier thread) this team is unstoppable. just wait until the offense catches up to the defense. NBA watch out.

No one could easily guard PP. You guys should know better then that.. <g> I think the C's would lose because Jordan and Pippen would ball hawk and make a ton of steals. But one on one - no one can guard Paul. The leagues top offensive players are all pretty unstoppable when they are on. The offensive player has a huge advantage.
