He's a better defensive 4 than 3. Add Dirk to the list. And some other non-20ppg guys, of course.

Also, Doc will try other things first, but I think he may be forced to (...) give Scal much more minutes than most of you would like.

I told you so.
Well I don't want him taking minutes at the 4 away from Powe on most nights though. When KG is out we need him, but otherwise I still think most nights he'll be a DNPCD.

Well it worked. Played decent D, Power got some minutes and did pretty good.

The real advantage of having Scal in the game is that he isn't scared of taking the open shot.  Tony Allen was driving me crazy last night when he passed on the open three with one second left on the clock cause he was too scared to miss the shot.  Rondo looked a little more solid, but teams are gonna sag back on these guys when they're terrified to shoot the ball.

At least Scal will take, and make that shot.

I have a feeling we are going to see Scalabrine getting much more regular minutes going forward.

He's probably our most solid option at the backup 3, at least defensively.  If he keeps hitting open shots, he can be the Celtics version of Bruce Bowen.

the things that Scal could theoretically do well for us are definitely what i want out of the backup SF position. shoot 3's and play hard D...

i'm not sure his shooting is consistent enough or he has the lateral quickness to do that like Pose did for us last season, but IMO the elements that he brings to the table are the right one's...

i do think that his performance last night shows why having shooting and D from the wing really helps open things up for us even though we already have Eddie, Ray and Paul doing it too....Pose was that extra element that it made it that much harder to clamp down on us like some teams have been doing so far this season.

i hope that Danny is looking for someone who can do that on a more consistent basis. but in the meantime, i have no problem with Scal filling the role as long as he is playing like he did last night and knocking down open J's.

come on, roy...you can't honestly believe this, can you?  i picture you typing this and hitting the "post" button with a smirk on your face.

i never knew the celtics could find a player worse than fred roberts...well, here he is.  the guy is awful, and should never be on the floor ahead of leon powe.  i realize doc is a fan of keeping his rotations the same, but powe deserved to start.  scalabrine is a joke...whether he makes $3 million or just $3 dollars he doesn't deserve to be on the floor.

Scal definitely brings something to the table...

yeah, his plate and fork...

I don't want to depend on Scal to be our Posey replacement.

If Scal can pull out a good game every once in a while...it'll be like icing on the cake.

Did you notice that the crowd wasn't chanting his name last night? Maybe his little UBUNTU interview helped.

I think Scal did one heck of a job last night and have known that this is what the guy can provide all along. I have supported him through all the negativity on here and it is funny now how many band-wagon Scal fans there are now.

I think the reason Scal is starting, is because they really like Powe off the bench matched up against their second unit for most of his minutes. Powe looked great for much of last night. I was particularly impressed when he stood up to Randolph without losing his cool and getting tossed. Powe would absolutely KILL Zach in a fight.

If TA doesn't shape up he is going to find himself riding the pine with Scal taking all his minutes.

TP,, i did notice that, and hope thats the case.

Despite my personal feelings on scal's worth to this team, no one deserves to be a living mascot. It's stupid and hurtful on the part of the garden crowd imo. I hope we've seen the last of it, but i fear we haven't.

Nice find, Balla32.

This is the year of the Scal.  Tough D, knock down 3's - Scal gonna light it up this year.

I am feelin it, a career year for Scal is coming in 08'-09'!!

DISCLAIMER - this is not a sarcastic comment, I do actually believe in ole Scal..

I never had any doubt Scal could provide this kind of spark off the bench.  I expect more of the same through the regular season, especially if that 3-ball keeps falling.

Way to go, Scal!!

I think Scal is well on his way to proving his worth this season, and hopefully the True Celtic faithful won't let those around them at the game chant his name in disdain any longer.

whats funny also is that the announcers actually thought the crowed actually wanted scal to shoot and when it went it they went crazy.

To me i think that he was being mocked and not really cheered for

I am really starting to think Scal just doesn't try in the preseason and garbage minutes.  He has looked terrible in those stretches, but over the last two years, has looked very solid whenever he has gotten regular rotation minutes.  I have a feeling we are going to see Scalabrine getting much more regular minutes going forward.

I agree that he has played better when he has had regular minutes but I don't think its a matter of not trying but its hard to prove your worth in a few minutes of game time. A lot of times you'll take bad shots and try to create something that is just not there. If you know you're going to get playing time its easier to sit back and let things come to you. I'm don't think Scalabrine is Posey but he is the best back-up three man we have on this team.

Yeah, not trying was a bad choice of words.  What I meant was that he plays differently when the games matter.  He seems to have a different focus, and plays within himself more.

Perhaps the focus Scal has when he gets meaningful minutes has something to do with not having the entire Garden sarcastically chanting his name.
