A bit surprised on the voting.  He got 16 of 28 first place votes.  I thought it was going to be a lot closer than that. 

Just realized he's the first AL second baseman to win the award since Nellie Fox in '59.  Quite the drought there.

I saw the voting and was rather surprised K-Rod wasn't in the top 5 and that Longoria was as far down as he was.

Great news but hold on not so great. How many more years of arbitration does he have left?? If he is a fa soon he will want 15 to 20 million per year. To me he is easily a 15 million per year player.

Pedroia is four seasons of playing for the Sox away from free agency. He's going nowhere fast and rumors are already saying that the Sox are trying to lock him up long term now. No need to worry.

Yes, but he's arbitration eligible for the 2009 season.  I believe he's in the top 17% of two year players.

I guess his price just went up LOL.

Couldn't be happier for Pedroia.  He deserves the award, and the future money it will get him his next contract negotiation. 

To me this guy personifies baseball and all that is good in the game, and none of the bad.  He is a perfect fit for this team and such an easy guy to cheer for.

WOW.  I was happy when I heard that he was in the running for the MVP but I never actually expected he would win it.  I am very surprised that he won.  Off the top of my head I cant really think of anyone who deserves it more but he doesn't really seem to have MVP worthy numbers. 

I know he played great D and came up with some big hits but I usually think of power hitters when I think of MVP.  He only had 83 RBI and 17 HRs.  That has to be the lowest of any MVP in a while.  Don't get me wrong I love Pedroia.  I just don't think of him as the best, or most valuable, player on our team let alone the AL.

roids being somewhat weeded of the game have driven power numbers down, it actually gives good hitters a chance vs. guys who strike out 200 times but hit 65 dingers.
